teen tries to hijack plane into Hannah Montana concert...

so.. this happened on Tuesday? But wanted to crash into a concert on Friday? Surely that airliner doesn't have some kind of jump into the future capability that we know about.. right?

That article was quite informative.

"Hannah Montana" is a hit Disney Channel show -- which stars 14-year-old Miley Cyrus and her country singer dad, Billy Ray Cyrus -- about a teenage girl who is a typical high-schooler by day but has a secret pop-star alter ego by night.
I now know what Hannah Montana's basic plot is. My life now has meaning.

In an attempt to instill some tangent intelligent conversation into this subject:

Certainly this kid had no chance of pulling off a successful hijacking. I wonder, since 9/11, does anyone believe that there will be a successful hijacking of an airplane in the USA in the next, say, 25 years?

I think not. I assume that the moment someone tries to hijack a plane, people on the plane, remembering 9/11, will do everything in their power to stop the hijacker, even at great immediate risk to their well-being.

I think the only way a hijacking will be successful in the future is if the hijacker(s) somehow is able to disable everyone else on the plane, Airport '77-style.

"The 16-year-old was taken into custody by airport police without incident on Tuesday evening after flying from Los Angeles, California, to Nashville, Tennessee, on Southwest Airlines Flight 284.

"His stated intent was to hijack the airplane and commit suicide," said George Bolds, an FBI spokesman in Memphis, Tennessee. "He did indicate he intended to die in Louisiana. It appears he had a ticket to Louisiana."

Bolds said the boy indicated he had lived in Louisiana."

Do you think he was going to Louisiana? Sorry, the article read like someone on crack wrote it. The mention like 5 times that he was going to commit suicide. But hey, at least he might have gotten Hanna Montana Canceled...

I think it is wrong to assume that it has absolutely no chance of happening in 25 years. I'm no terrorist, but I doubt they will sit idle thinking to themselves, "Man that American security is so tight we might as well give up!." There are bound to be loop-holes around somewhere. And I highly doubt people will go, "OMG Terrorist, keeell hiiim!" on a plane. They'd be just as scared as the first time it happened.

yes, but they will know that they will most likely die if they do nothing...So most would be motivated to action.

They might be scared but they also know the consequences of doing nothing now. I have no idea what happened on the 9/11 planes but I don't think anyone was really expecting them to fly the plane into a building. I'm guessing most of the people on the place were expecting that it would land somewhere and they'd have a chance of surviving. Today I think more people would be like fuck it if I'm going to die I might as well try to do something about it.

Why bother hijacking a plane, just blow something up at a few TSA check-ins. Then they'll need to start a pre-screen TSA screening a few miles away from the airport in an underground bunker.

Hahaha I thought the SAME exact thing. Until now I kept thinking "WTF makes yet another Disney teen so popular", but not enough to actually wikipedia it.

he wanted to crash the airplane into the venue where the hannah montana concert was to be held
it wasn't clear from the article i read whether he wanted to kill her or if he just wanted to stop the concert from happening

This article has informed me as well as to what this "Hannah Montana" is.

Wait, he wanted to crash the plane INTO the concert? WHY THE HELL DID THEY STOP HIM?!?! Good god I wish Mylee Montana's 15 minute were up...

Sure she's <pedophilecreepyness> pretty damn good looking </pedophilecreepyness>, but no amount of good looks can compensate for the way she irritates me.
