I wouldn't take either of their stories at face value. Recording or it didn't happen.

His story's makes more sense, if you like a girl a lot and want to impress her. The last thing you'd do is try to SELL her something she asked you for. A teen boy in love would probably give her anything she said she wanted. I just don't see him saying "hay babe, I can sell you some weed if you want some"

Of course he says that...he got caught.

Maybe it's just me, but if someone started begging me for pot I'd tell them to go pound sand. Then again, I'm not fond of criminal endeavors to impress the ladies...

Not everyone treats marijuana/marijuana smokers as something evil, nor does everyone consider the idea the person speaking with them is an undercover cop. Sure, he could be lying, but the tactics are also incredibly dirty and pushing the line for law enforcement, in my mind.

Entrapment? I guess that might depend on the kid's honesty, and even then... I'm not sure, but it sure wasn't the most beautiful depiction of the law generally doing the right thing.

Thats fucked up and a glaring case of entrapment. I would have taken that shit to court.

The officer, who refused to give her name to This American Life, said Laboy was the one who offered to get her drugs -- and that he took the payment without being asked.

Whether this actually happened or not... the judge will accept the police officer's word. And the police officer who wants to remain employed will stick to that story. No entrapment, no case.

I don't see why cops would go in to target random kids to try to entrap them. They probably get to school and get to know who deals the drugs and then try to get those to sell to them to make the bust.

The best way to stop crime and drug use is to take at risk youth and get them expelled from school and put in prison.

That way they can get a leg up on life and won't be drawn into a life of crime.

they were recruits. They were trying to make a case no matter what, even if it was entrapment.

The kid is an idiot for breaking the law, but come on, it's a baggie of weed. It's not like the kid was dealing coke or pills.

you are so naive, you believe the words of a drug dealer, who LOL wanted to join Air force when he grew up. people say anything to get out of jail and get public sympathy for their case.

You sir are a sheep, plain and simple.

So you believe the cop is telling just the truth, and this whole undercover sting was a good use of time and money.

Who is really a sheep?

There are more police officers because of the war on drugs. You said yourself you would have less to do i.e. less cops. Also all the industries that supply you are FOR profit.

Why should LE attempt to shape public policy? Enforce the laws but if the people dont want mj to be criminal then we should have the right to change the laws without resistance from the police and the LE industries.

Less paperwork means more time for proactive patrol. Unless you think you should have fewer than two officers on duty for 15,000 people and 50+ square miles?

And let me add they resist because profits would go down.
I got LAID OFF in 2008. Many other departments had layoffs as well. Where were these abundant "profits" of which you speak?

if they dont put away druggie kids before things get bad they go to far and never are able to go back. they will blow all their money on their fix, become dropouts, steal to buy more drugs, get caught, go to prison, get out and live in section 8 housing then steal/prison/steal/prison, repeat until they die.

its sad really but you gotta stop it before they are too far gone.

Since when has anyone actually thought of law enforcement as profitable?

It's profitable to those that are in it. Every government agency is run like a kingdom, and more "money" and "stuff" means more "profit" for that agency. It's magic money, and the leeches only think of themselves, not where the money's coming from, or the better uses it could be applied to. That's not counting the privatized prison systems which are hugely profitable, and whose owners help draft legislation to make even more money at the expense of the population.

LOL! That's gotta be a shitty job. Posing as a high school student when you're 25 and doing homework and crap for several months.

Yeah if the kid had been really clever he could have led her on with the promise of a "big" delivery, banged that shit a few times then brought her a grocery sack full of oregano:cool:
