Irving Police spokesman Officer James McLellan told the station, "We attempted to question the juvenile about what it was and he would simply only tell us that it was a clock."

I mean, seriously?

I hope they win millions in the inevitable lawsuits against the school system and police department.

Should have strapped the clock to himself instead... Teacher would have had a heart attack.

How dare any public school student invent anything, or do anything at all that shows any glimmer of independent thought. He should be institutionalized immediately.

Some guy on facebook beat me to the perfect comment:

"How did a bunch of complete idiots end up accidentally running a school? Were you all yanked out of a zoo and given paychecks?"

Please. Texas does not even compare to the state I now live in.

Alleged FIU Foot-Sniffer Arrested

Authorities have arrested the man wanted by Florida International University authorities for allegedly smelling women's feet on campus.

Bring it Texas.

Police said he had been crawling underneath tables at the FIU Library to smell women's feet. He had been caught in the act in photos.

Records show Juan is a registered sex offender. He has a rap sheet dating back to 1992. His previous run-ins with the law includes charges of lewd and lascivious behavior on a child and indecent exposure.

On Tuesday, investigators said a subject matching Juan's description was spotted riding a scooter in the area of 51st Street and Southwest 104th Avenue.

Officers attempted a traffic stop, but Juan attempted to flee and subsequently crashed.

Who would you have blamed if it had been a bomb and gone off? The same people you're blaming now?

Who came up with, "If you see something, say something."

Stop excusing the inexcusable. The issue is not with "if you see something, say something" it's with what happened afterwards, once it was already clear there was no bomb and this boy was still arrested and suspended.

The child made no threat and no claims that it was a bomb. From the story he didn't take any actions that seemed to have the intent to cause panic. The initial reaction is appropriate to ensure what he has is safe. After that was determine, they have gone way too far.

Too funny!

"We attempted to question the juvenile about what it was and he would simply only tell us that it was a clock."

yeah in one article the cop was upset that is all he would say. Well what else do you want him to say? IT's a fucking clock!

Total over reaction by the school calling the cops is slightly understandable. but suspension? way over reaction.

This should have ended when professionals looked at it (they did have professionals look right?). The kid said it was a clock. they admit it looked like a dismantled clock. yet they arrest him? and may charge him latter?

You know out of morbid curiousity I looked at a right wing forum and my god they have this kid branded as a wannabe terrorist. Dozens of posters. It is actually disturbing how they are painting him for just that reason.

Kinda funny, considering that in that neck of the woods (in neighboring Oklahoma), the largest terrorist attack prior to 9/11 was committed by a white, right-wing nut case.

That's a good question. I see nothing in the article addressing that but we still have a lot of participants in this thread making assumptions.

But, this situation is nirvana to a SJW. Jumping to conclusions is to be expected. And it could have been worse, he could have bitten a Pop-Tart into the shape of a gun.

Except rational heads should have prevailed once they knew it wasn't a bomb. The english teacher knew it wasn't a bomb. Every adult involved knew it wasn't a bomb. If they thought it was a bomb, the bomb squad would have been called. There was a clear overreaction. No one ever thought it was a real bomb and the kid never said or did anything that would have caused a panic or to make anyone think it was a bomb. At minimum it looks like the school violated the student's disciplinary due process rights regarding the suspension.

At worst the school and Irving PD violated the students constitutional rights. It appears the school didn't notify the parents before the arrest, the school tried to get the student to sign a written statement without his parents there, the SRO's didn't allow the student to call his parents once he requested, and the school suspended him for three days without 1. talking to the parents or 2. conducting a full investigation. Points 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 are violations of his due process rights as a student. #3 is a possible constitutional violation as the student was clearly in a custodial interrogation and they refused to let him speak with his parents.

People will be reassigned/terminated and the school and city may have some financial liability.

Then you have the Mayor say Irving is one of the safest cities and taking precautions like the police and school did in this case is what makes them safe. All that flies in the face of what happened last spring as a highschool student murdered his ex-girlfriend and just a couple weeks ago two high school students committed capital murder.

<------ From Dallas, Irving and Irving ISD have had a rough 2015. They have made a lot of news locally.
