A teenage boy who broke into a high-rise apartment fell 26 storeys to his death during a botched burglary in the city's east end yesterday afternoon. Toronto police were called to a high-rise complex on Massey Square, near Victoria Park and Danforth Aves., around 2:30 p.m. Ruth Malloy, 78, who lives on the second floor of the apartment building next to the high-rise, said she could see where the body "landed on the grass outside the building, in a bushy spot."

The boy, believed to be about 16, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the teen had broken into an apartment on the 26th floor and ransacked the home of cash and jewellery. He was startled when the family living in the apartment ? a mother with two children aged 11 and 13 ? returned home. "They actually tried to keep him in the apartment by blocking the door," Det. Derek Young said. Instead of fighting through the family, the thief moved to the balcony, threw his bag of stolen goods over the side, and began climbing down. "That's when he slipped and fell," Young said. He was not a resident of the building, police said.

Good Riddance. At least now he can't turn into a serial killer or something when he's older.

The article said the burglar didn't live in that building. One wonders what made him climb 26 floors and target that particular apartment. Did he know the victim?

Dumb kid. Rather risk killing himself than face a far less punishment.

He should have jumped to another balcony.

He obviously lacked the intelligence for that;). Then again, how stupid do you have to be to even start 'balcony hopping'.

What a perfect cover up. 16 year old kid was dating the family's 11 year old daughter and was caught in the bedroom with the daughter when the father got home. Dad gets angry, throws kid off balcony. "We don't know who he is, he had a bag full of our valuable stuff that he threw down to the ground. Fortunately, we were able to retrieve the bag shortly after the police arrived to pick up the body."
