Nailed it. For congresscritters it's all about where the money goes and who influences the direction.

Expect mayhem.

The F-35 sourcing clusterchickenfuck sounds like something that would make a lot of sense to Cruz. Anything else could possibly be Obamacare for the defense industry I bet.

He'll no doubt cause a ruckus and a bunch of tards will point to the ruckus and claim it as evidence of how Government sucks at everything.

That's what the American people voted for when they elected a Republican Senate. No sympathies from me.

I say we increase Nasa's budget to include a mission to Mars for Ted Cruz.
Sending Ted to Mars accomplishes two things, increases Nasa's budget and improves the senate.

And the insanity continues - dark days ahead of us. Guess I need to find my donkey cart and practice "bring out your dead"

Hes a creationist
Hes a climate change denier.
He dislikes science
He thinks NASA is a waste of money

And now he leads the nation on science and space exploration! woot good job republicans!

Remember, if you oppose his views - which oppress you, others and science - YOU are the real oppressor here.

He is a hoax.

He is Canadian. We secretly implanted him in the dumbest part of the country and told him to pander to the idiots who live there. Gain power and control through taking advantage of the profoundly stupid until he is in the proper position.

He is there. You're all doomed. With his new control of NASA he will empower Canada into a new age. He is but a puppet of the Canadian Government, and soon NASA will do the bidding of Canadians, on the American dime.

And you were too stupid to stop him.

Ted Cruz, in a press conference today, indicated his full support for NASA in its quest to answer the critical questions concerning our universe, "Is there ice fishing on Mars?"

I always knew the Repubs had a sense of humor. I knew it the day Bush43 got elected. I knew it the day Bush43 sent Bolton to the UN. I knew it the day Sarah Palin got picked for McCain's running mate. I knew it the day the Repubs adopted the Tea Party and became one big happy family.

This kind of shit, no comedy script writer could ever imagine.

Ted Cruz is what I call negative headcount.
But then again so is most of the GOP conference. But that's what the American people voted for, or didn't vote against. So, enjoy.

This country should have had a full functional moon base along with missions to mars and beyond by now, 46 years after the first of six moon landings.

While it's all fun and games picking on the low hanging fruit like Cruz, this country's aversion to science, math, and intellectualism is engrained in its culture including liberal Hollywood/television with its promotion of pseudo science, portrayal of the gifted as losers, nerds, geeks, etc, and higher education is about partying not studying,

while promoting biff the ball player, ricki the rock/rap star, the Kardashians, spears, miley cyrus, bieber and all the types that wouldn't have made it past the side show in the circus 100 years ago as what Americans should aspire to while showering them with millions and millions of dollars.

And of course there is Wall Street and its immediate profit and nothing else matters mentality, the catalyst that is speeding this country towards its well deserved idiocracy.

404 - NASA budget cuts not found.
The proposed NASA budget is part of President Barack Obama's 2014 federal budget request and would restore the U.S. space agency's funding back near its 2012 levels. The request is about $50 million less than NASA's last budget in 2012, but would restore deep cuts from sequestration, leaving the agency with a roughly $1 billion increase from the $16.6 billion spending bill the agency received for 2013.
Thanks to Obama for restoring cuts to NASA from the Republican sequestration.

The budget is up 1 billion dollars, but it has been cut every year until now from the high of 2009. Overall it's still down from the relatively flat level of funding NASA has traditionally endured.

Correction, it's been cut every year from the high of 2010, not 2009. Who took over the House in 2010? Cue Jeopardy music.

I'm looking at a graph which starts at the year 2k. During those years we had two different changes of administration, and shifts in Congress as a whole. In that whole time there has not been much consideration given to increasing in any significant way NASAs budget. Note that the budget during the first 8 years was under Bush, who apparently didn't sabotage NASA. Who was President after that? The one you are thanking?

Even so that's immaterial to my point which is that government, which is composed of two parties but for the rare independent, has not taken NASA or science in general as seriously as it should. You may forgive one side and blame the other, but I don't think either party has much to commend it. Oh, Iraq? We'll have a war. Syria? Thanks, you can have lots of money for problems there. The military budget? That's bacon. Expansion of this program or that one. Science? Well here's your bone.

For me that doesn't make a lot of sense.

He advocated cutting NASA's 2012 budget and the 2013 sequestration that occurred was originally recommended by Obama as an incentive for both parties to work together. The sequestration was his idea in the first place! But hey...we all should thank Obama for advocating restoring cuts to NASA he proposed and that directly resulted from the failed sequestration incentive he recommended. How someone can have their head so far up Obama's ass and still not smell his shit is beyond me.

The biggest problem isn't the amount of money it is more about the lack of a long term plan for NASA and cost-plus contracting that causes programs to be un-necessairly expensive.

Climate change denier? How about catastrophic anthropogenic climate change denier? I doubt the man really denies that the climate changes. (Although if he's a creationist, I suppose that's possible.)

Then you should lobby Red China. They might actually have a chance.

Funny thing, in 1969 I was convinced we'd have people walking on Mars by 1989.
I think most educated folk understand that the term "climate denier" refers to a person who believes that observed changes in global temperature are mostly due to natural causes and/or that there aren't any significant changes in global temperature.

Now, you can insist that "climate denier" be interpreted literally, but since you DO understand what its intended meaning is, you'd have to be a pretty big asshole to sidetrack threads with that type of argument.

Most educated people don't use such gross misnomers as 'climate denier' or 'climate change denier' either. This label is commonly used by "believers" ;) to reinforce stereotypes and dishonestly frame the debate.

You do realize the entire concept of the sequestration was that it was supposed to be a poison pill. Something so bad that neither party would dare let it actually occur. But Republicans never met a bad spending cut they didn't love it seems.
