Yeah but it sure does show that it's not just the PCI-E that matters in overal comparison, the cpu and added ddr4 plays a role to, i was watching a youtube video where they already showing that in tri SLI on the "old" 980 more lanes is better and the card is performing better on 16/16/8 then 8/8/8. Also crysis 3 already showed good improvment on 16/16 vs 8/8 in that video to.

Here is the video if u interested.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rctaLgK5stA

I don't see that it shows that at all. At 640x480 it's about as useless of a test as it gets. Might as well not even bother. PCIe bus isn't stressed, cards aren't stressed, and the load placed on ANY of the subsystems (CPU, RAM, PCI Express, GPU's) is not at all indicative of, well... Anything.

Lmao. You are one for calling someone stupid when you didn't even read my original post. You do realize the third port is 8x right? In the end all you managed to show is somebody has to buy a 10cm SLI bridge and is STILL stuck at 8x on a CUSTOM X99 board that's $400 to achieve slightly more spacing than Z97. Amazing you managed to find one minor point in my post (about z97 spacing) and went all the way out to find an expensive custom board to invalidate *one* of my points while quoting my ENTIRR POST as if invalidating one minor quibble invalidates everything I said, then calling me stupid.

You must think correcting spelling mistakes on someone's post also invalidates everything they posted! Congratulations on owning yourself again!

I think you need someone physically in the room with you to explain the photograph, because you are clearly way too confused for anyone to explain it in terms you'll understand in a forum setting.

Essentially what it boils down to is, he's right, you're wrong.

Only if you can cool the cards well with them jammed together in pcie slots 1 and 2. X99 boards are limited to 16x/8x if you skip a slot and use slots 1 and 3, so there's no difference between the 5820k and 5930k in that regard.

X99 really has poor SLI spacing. z97 SLI boards for example have the same gap between pcie spots 1-2 as x99 has between 1-3.
Why don't you just post examples of the X99 boards that prove your point....

You maybe right here, i dont know enough to argue one way or the other :)

Unsurprising, X99 is gloriously powerful. I bought mine (5820k, 16gb DDR4 3000, 980 Ti) because I tend to do many things with my PC, most of them at the same time. Playing GTAV on the 55" 4k with 20 tabs open in chrome on my 25" 2560x1080 while twitch streaming with a dozen other background programs running and it... couldn't care any less. A quad core would be on its knees, meanhile the 5820k just keeps on truckin'.

Most of the X99 hate comes from the same people that hate on 4k. Seems some people just hate new tech because it means what they have is no longer top of the line, tbh.

Wait what?

You're playing GTAV on a 55" 4K television with 20 tabs open in a cropped window on a completely different display with Twitch streaming and while running dozens of other programs at the same time?

You're right, I'm jealous! How many hands and eyes and brains do you have to do these things at the same time?

You sound amazing!

Joking aside, I think it would be interesting to compare the experience of doing this kind of activity between the newer X99 systems and an older Z97 system (perhaps running a 4970K).

6 and more cores are extremely relevant these days and will become even more so with DX12.

Most games could barely take advantage of 2 cores few years back, but these days most games can take advantage of 6 or more cores. With the consoles having 8 cores as well, we are going to be seeing pretty much the large majority of games be able to take advantage of at least 8 cores.

So no wonder that more cores are faster these days!

Why? these tests are just academic for the most part. We know 6 or 8 cores are better than 4 for many types of activities (compiling code, virtual machines, video editing, etc.)

Back on topic - if six cores can really make my games run faster than four (which is what this thread is about) than that's awesome. We need more evidence than what the original video provides though and from some reputable sites.

It's a luxury purchase. I don't think it's relevant to the majority of consumers but Jesus if you have enough for x99 and 4k get it.

I want to get to where you are(x platform isn't as important but the dual screen 4k etc that's how I use my pc or like to).

Multimonitor setups are amazing? People who stream games to twitch are amazing? People who have lots of browser tabs open are amazing? Not sure what the sarcasm is about, there's nothing particularly out of the ordinary about how I use my PC. I use my TV for gaming and video and my monitor for everyday PC stuff.

If you look closely, you can even see my 3rd screen below the TV for my security cameras! How could I possibly see them all at once?!

Oh right, peripheral vision.

I was mostly being sarcastic as the way you wrote your original reasoning for needing a 6 core came off as a little silly. Like if you're doing all of those things at once, you probably are doing none of them well. Nice setup though!

Anyways the jury is still out if six cores for gaming make sense over more affordable quad core with hyperthreading (and I really would like to see testing from reputable sites, I can't afford to buy dual 980 SLI's and a 5920/30 to test this out).

I would also like to state for the people who live within normal driving distances of a Microcenter, good for you! You're among the 1% of the population that can get these deals so please stop using them for a point of comparison.
