I realize this might be off-topic, but my question is as follows:

I work in a new law office. We're interested in obtaining qualified technical support for our computer systems. I was given the task of reviewing the proposals given to me by various businesses in the area.

If nobody on here has any direct input into this, please direct me to where I might find some qualified information as to what I should expect in terms of support and the average cost of the services being offered beyond what I've been submitted so far. I want to find a base for what the cost would be for items such as x number of visits per month + remote assistance etc etc etc..

Amongst other things, it would depend on how large your office is, where are you located what kind and how much service you need. By the last item, I mean, is there anyone in the office who can handle routine, day to day issues, or do you need a full service provider who regularly checks your system/network, does all updates and maintainance and/or is on call?

In other words, you have to define the kinds and extent of the service you need, and it should definitely be from a local provider.

Hope that helps. :)

I appreciate the reply. The office itself consists of a total of 12 workstations. It's located in the West Palm Beach area and the type of service we would require is typically related to issues as simple as printer problems and more serious ones such as problems with our NAS. Confidentiality is an issue as well due to the sensitive nature of the data any technician working with our setup would potentially be exposed to. So an NDA would need to be agreed to by anyone coming in to the office to assist with any issues we might face.

Basically we're looking for what I would imagine is pretty basic support. Time is money, and if we have any issues with the local area network they need to be resolved expeditiously. For that reason alone I would imagine we would require a local business that's capable of responding in a timely manner if we should have the need. I'd like to have this set up through a business that's additionally capable of upgrading the existing network if there's a need for it. Possibly even implementing a new network structure to replace the existing one.

So now it's basically a process of exploring options and looking into what the cost would be and what we can expect to be provided with in terms of service options.

Oh, and there is no in-house technician for the office currently. There was technical support offered through the building itself and a company that was servicing it, but they went out of business very recently. So we're left with a potentially very serious situation in the future. We're paid up through December, and will receive support for any issues until December 1'st. So we have to fix this situation ASAP.
