Magic Dragon Theatre (Dec 21 2007)

Happy Holidays! As a present thumper (our main science database) crashed for no reason this morning. Not even the service processor was responding. I wasn't planning on coming to the lab today but here I am. Long story short, Jeff/Bob/I have no idea why it crashed - I found it powered down (but with standby power on). I powered it up no problem. Some drives are resyncing, but there's no sign that any drives died. In fact, every service on it is coming up just fine, including informix. Also no signs of high temperatures, or other hardware failures. Well, jeez.

While the main disks are syncing up I'll leave the assimilators/splitters off. We may run out of work, but hopefully not for too long.

- Matt

Appart for Anandtech's stats, it shows how much more/less than Anandtech.
Also shows based on Average Work Done how many days for Anandtech to overtake the team, or be overtaken by a team behind...

Dang,

That goes to show why I'm not getting any WU downloaded then. I just brought 13 more machines online last night... the downloads (if any) were extremely slow.

(*starting thinking about submitting a donation... to SETI)

Well, hope things work better for them... sucks having to come in on a day off, but hey I'm at the office now... guess there's no rest for the wicked!! ;)

Everyone have a Merry Christmas!!

(Thanks for the stats too! - I don't get to check them much, but when I do they're very much appreciated.)

The re-sync seems to have finished roughly the same time they ran-out of work, but they're been splitting a bunch of VHAR-wu's. These wu's is much faster to crunch than "normal" wu's, meaning "everyone" asks for more work, and even after adding 2 extra splitters they're not generating work fast enough.

Also, it's little point to add even more splitters, since they're maxed-out on available bandwidth, making it very hard to download wu's even they're been assigned.

So, until they're back to splitting "normal" wu's, expect difficulty getting enough work.

BTW, there won't be any stats to-day, since the stats-site I'm basing my stats on haven't updated for some reason...

Good output by us today :)

Hey LANMAN ,good to see ya:thumbsup:

Thx for the stats & info RD :) ,btw do we know what the typical AR for a WU is now? ,I'd really like to setup a benchmark WU for testing.

I can't seem to get a fix on an "average" WU these days. I went through my log the other day, and here's an example on my e6750 rig:

4637 seconds, 46 credit
4681 seconds 58 credit
4381 seconds 69 credit

all of these for the same freakin' machine, often right next to each other! my overall avg credit per day seems to be hovering around 2,000 on that rig, and that number does seem to be fairly consistent, however.

edit:

I've gotten a lot of 1000 second Wu's today. in fact, I just looked at 10 of them that were all between 1007 and 1019 seconds, all with 19.41 credit. looking at them now, there's probably 40 or 50 of those. then I have a 4823 with 63.98 credit (3 of these), but I also have a 5219/73.39 credit and 4519/50.60 credit that are right next to these others...

Congrats Sam!! that's awesome!
