The Ocean is the Ultimate Solution (Nov 14 2007)

In case anybody noticed we had the assimilators/splitters turned off for a bit to test the swap between our primary/secondary science database servers. Everything worked! So that was a valuable test, especially we'll need to do this for realsies in the coming weeks to upgrade the OS on the current primary (thumper).

Any mediawiki nerds out there? I need some assistance... We're trying to wiki-fy parts (or perhaps most) of the SETI@home public web site. However right off the bat I'm hitting an annoying problem: pages with '@' in their title, like, uh, "SETI@home." This is documented everywhere I could find as a "legal" wiki title character, but if I try to edit any page with '@' in the title it fails (saying the page - missing the at sign - doesn't exist - would you like to create it?). So I tried to escape it with '%40' but this also fails (as the software converts the escaped ASCII code to '@' which results in the same problem). What do I need to hack? Title.php? Something else? Google searches have proven useless so far (hard to search for '@' or 'at sign').

Dan and I re-seated this chips on the failing UPS (which I whined about yesterday). Now it works. All three new/used UPS's are charging now. Can't wait to add these to our server closet.

Outage notices: There's gonna be a lab-wide outage later this month. Probably the night of November 29th, but this isn't official yet. Jeff and I will probably have our own full-day server outage prior to that (early next week?) to do some server closet maintenance in preparation for the real outage.

- Matt

Appart for Anandtech's stats, it shows how much more/less than Anandtech.
Also shows based on Average Work Done how many days for Anandtech to overtake the team, or be overtaken by a team behind

we're never going to stay ahead of taiwan unless we keep a lot of our gauntlet buddies, but it sure is nice to put the scare into them! Universe examiners must beware, however...

lol :D

Well the race is just a short stint ,but I think some people will stay on as they have 'rediscovered' SETI ;)

I for one will at least keep 2 of my 4 cores on SETI for a while after the race:)

i'm swapping out my E4300 with an X3210... that should help... I did lose one computer though... I had to return the E6300 back to my sister... but don't worry... i'll be bringing the E4300 up in another computer running Ubuntu... I just revived a p3 1.2Ghz with Ubuntu... the first wu it initially said it was going to take 77hrs to complete... but after 2.5 hours, I have %14 percent completed and now only 55hrs to completion... I haven't needed to turn on the heat in my apartment yet... my farm keeps it a nice 80 degrees.... with the windows open ;)

lol ,saves on heating bills a? ;)
It's a pitty you can't use the waste heat to help heat your hot water for further savings...........maybe you could with a heat exchanger;)

Btw what's a X3210?
