Slightly All the Time (Nov 07 2007)

Let's see. Kind of getting bogged down in proposal land (Dan, Eric, and Josh are doing most of the work on that but I get pulled in from time to time to help with the menial stuff). After the proposal stress is beyond us we'll begin the next donation push which will find me babysitting servers sending out hundreds of thousands of e-mails. Fun. Meanwhile I'll be chipping away at the zillion things on my to-do list which could easily take a man-year to complete.

Around the lab we've been discussing the notion of "e-mail bankruptcy" - realizing there is no way you can catch up on your teeming in-box, so you simply delete everything, then send out a mass e-mail to everyone saying something like "I deleted all my e-mails - sorry I didn't respond - if it's really important please send it again." In reality I do this all the time without sending that mass e-mail. Someday I might have to declare "to-do list bankruptcy."

Warning: we might have a quick BOINC database outage tomorrow (to clean up old logs). And then we'll keep the assimilators offline an additional few hours so we can safely build indexes on the science database. The latter won't affect normal upload/downloads.

- Matt

Appart for Anandtech's stats, it shows how much more/less than Anandtech.
Also shows based on Average Work Done how many days for Anandtech to overtake the team, or be overtaken by a team behind

Thanks for the stats, Rattledagger! :D
Nice production! OTHO it is probably the result of the Tuesday outage (when quite a few crunchers could not report results until Wednesday).
We could hope for a more permanent production in the range of 180 - 200K but that would require that quite afew people would abandon other projects.
At least I am not prepared to do that - my normally favored project is CPDN. Seti comes normally 4th (after MalariaControl and WCG and just before Einstein@home)

Yes, as announced they had a short outage.

But, it seems they've been pusing-out close to 60 Mbit/s for 6 hours now, this indicates they're been splitting a bunch of VHAR, or has hit a bunch of RFI-wu. In either case, they're basically maxed-out as far as that the download-server can push-out, and there will be problems downloading work. Also, with splitters planned to be down for some time after the outage, they'll likely run out of work before starts splitting again.

Below is what I'm getting.
Is there a better way (or any other way) to get this to run?

just let it try again in 3 hrs. if you're really impatient (like me) you can use the update button in the projects tab whenever you would like to manually update.

Well, most connection-problems in BOINC is self-correcting, but since it seems the outgoing bandwidth is down to normal, to speed-things up you can select the stuck download on the download-page and hit "Retry now". Uploads and Scheduling-server on the other hand still seems to be difficult to connect to...

You also have the option to download and install an optimized SETI@home-application.

Run something like CPUid and tell us what the latest "instruction set" is on the machine you want to optimize. Then I will send you a link or email you with the proper client along with instructions. :)

SSE?
SSE2?
SSE3?
SSSE3?

edit: I see WIZ has it worked out but the same offer is good to any else that needs some help. ;)

Thanks Greg,

I've found one on KWSN's ver 2.4 - got it up & running now.

I was editing the message as you were responding, but thanks just the same!
