Technical info for DDR4 memory speeds?

I'm looking for information about DDR4 memory speeds, Skylake's IMC, and XMP for H110/H170/B150 chipset motherboards. I want to understand exactly how fast DDR4 can run on non-Z platforms, how XMP is executed, what are the workarounds, etc. I am building a PC with Skylake HD 530 graphics and DDR4 memory speeds are an important factor.

If you want to run RAM in XMP mode faster than DDR4 2133 speeds, you will need a Z170 motherboard. There is little cost difference between an entry level Z170 board and the more limited chipsets. Some of the H170 motherboards might tout the "XMP" feature on the box, but if you look at the detailed specs, it's limited to DDR4 2133 speeds.
