I just graduated college last month and I'm already considering taking some classes or getting some certifications. Seems like something I wouldn't mind doing and honestly, I'm just looking for something to get me some cash at the moment.

I'd say the job market for expirienced coders is pretty kick ass right now.

If I weren't married with a kid and a mortgage, I might consider job shopping nationwide for a nice gig, and then move there.

Still damn near impossible to find decent entry level positions, with minimal experience.
Steady hours + optional OT. Decent to great payrate. Benefits. I don't know why that's too much to ask for.

really? In the Chicago area?

What field are you in?
Decent qualifying positions get more scarce farther away from Chicago, I want to get closer.
Just general IT atm. Have an AS in networking. Was waiting until I get more experience (and get back in school) to focus my concentration on anything specific.

I did land a nice position at a company earlier this year. They were looking to fill entry-level, no other details. Month later they said they wanted someone with more experience & didn't want to train me. Was on some straight bullshit.

I start a bullshit 4-week contract gig next week. Better than nothing right now, but I'll be right back in same spot in few weeks. Meh.

Start looking in Milwaukee, there's a demand here.

Ok, you having little to no experience and thus not being able to get a tech job doesn't mean that there are no tech jobs..

No offense, this isn't directed at you, but many companies have been burned by horribly underqualified and overcertified IT people.

Start looking in Milwaukee, there's a demand here.

I've had 2 phone interviews with companies in WI, but they weren't willing to assist in the relocation.

I have friends/family in Vegas and LA, so been looking out there too. Relocating out that way wouldn't be as difficult of a transition, when I'd have some place to room at soon as I get there.

Indianapolis has decent demand

Well if you're serious about finding a job, and don't mind working out this way PM me a link to your resume. We are currently hiring for a few different entry level positions in IT.

My company (Amazon) needs software developers regardless of the experience. The bar is high, but I haven't heard of a single applicant getting turned away because of "lack of experience".

Unemployment rate for college grads is supposed to be only 5% (6% used to be considered structural employment; may be 7% now).

I think unemployment rate is so high because of manufacturing jobs that have gone overseas permanently, construction jobs created during housing boom, and retail.

Just wait til you're in your mid 30s, and all your successful friends are in a position to just hire whoever the fuck they want at wherever they work. That's about all you can do.

We had a dept at 50% staffing for 6 months because they couldn't find anyone qualified to fill the positions.

Its easy to find a job if you're good at what you do. Not so easy if you're average.
