Goddamn, I was just watching Fresh Gear and was shocked by how much Pro-Mac Anti-PC crap they spout. They were doing a review of Apple's latest notebooks and decided to compare the best the PC had to offer compared to Mac's offerings.

Now, the Mac laptops do like cool and have lots of cool features (most notably the titanium G4), but at $3500 there's no way you could get me to buy one. They were ranting and raving about the laptops despite the heavy price tag, which is fine by me because there are some people willing to spend that kind of money.

Here is what really pissed the hell out of me. They decided to compare these Mac laptops with the supposed "top-of-the-line" pc notebooks. Guess what notebook they chose to compare to: a Dell Latitude. Now right off the bat, everyone knows the Inspiron 8xxx series are their best notebooks. Here's what's even more shocking. This specific laptop had a measly 12.1 LCD screen, an 800 mhz Processor, and a pathetically low amount of ram, hdd space, etc. What's even worse is that they were claiming this laptop was $2700????? Ok maybe about a year ago, but cmon we already got 1.6 GHZ laptops with Geforce 4 graphics chipsets for even cheaper than $2700.

This type of crap makes me even hate Apple more and more. Not only do they claim they are the best they spout stupid lies about stability and performance. Their latest ad campaign makes me sick. You don't see Microsoft doing this type of crap against Apple, but i wish they did ream their sorry asses.
 
actually, the ibooks and inspirons would be a fair comparison


latititudes and powerbooks are business machines.

sounds to me like it was a latitude x200, which is the under 3lb notebook. those start at about $1800. and theres very little difference between the latitude and inspiron line. though it isn't fair to compare the sort of desktop replacement the G4 powerbook is to a notebook who's primary goal is mobility at the expense of everything else.
 
I saw their review of MacWorld the other night where they interviewed some zealot about OS10.1 or whatever - He was like "YEAH, there are TONS of cool features - now you can do things like manage printers and do networking just by clicking on things!"

I laughed my a$$ off, what the heck kind of feature is that?? That isn't a feature!! How horrible is that that he got so excited about such a basic feature that was apparently never included before??

networking and printing were managed by clicking on things since the first macs that i can remember using... say... a mac SE? the guy is obviously a moron.
 
I have an Inspiron 8200 that ROCKS!

Macs totally suck at everything. A well equiped, tweaked PC clone with a stock off the shelf vid card, sound card, and standard DDR ram will eat a macs lunch anyday, laptop or not.

The only reason TechTV rants about Macs is because apple pays for it, and TechTV is a prostitute to the IT industry highest bidder.

What's even worse was the guy doing the review. He had some smart ass remark "Dude, your getting a dell!........i think not!". This guy is obviously a moronic mac zeaolot who pitted a pathetically slow and featureless PC with some made up ridiculous msrp in order to give the mac laptops an aura of superiority. I mean for $3500 you can buy the most tricked out PC laptop, with just about every extra that you can think of. Even worse in the show where they interviewed that idiot who said that the networking and printers feature was what he was looking forward to was that just about everything they looked at was something for the iPOD. Now i like the iPOD, but $300 for a 5 GB version, HELL NO!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't have to have used a Mac before to validate any of my statements. If anything, you Mac users are more biased because you won't acknowledge that PC can do everything that a Mac can do and more. And who is the one with the NEGATIVE ad campaign? Apple or Microsoft?? Who is spouting lies?? Yea, were real biased and we must be wrong.

Unfortunately, that's the whole point. With OS X, Apple let the unix engineers run the show. That's great to a point, but there are issues of user interface and ease of use that people expect from a Mac (and Windows). Since they killed AppleTalk and went with IP everything in OS X, that also means they killed the automatic network device discovery and configuration that AppleTalk enabled. This pissed Mac users off and Apple is adding those features back in by using what they call "Rendezvous" which is just an implementation of an open standard for IP devices that hasn't yet caught on. This is good and bad news. The good is that devices on networks will be a lot more intelligent. The bad news is that it will requires buying devices with this added feature, which means all new products to replace suddenly obsolete ones.

OS X is full of things like this. Features that existed in older Mac OS, that Apple's unix engineers didn't think were important because they are unix people and don't give a rat's ass about useability, and that have to be added back in because the OS sucks without them. Or in some cases, they were features that were in pre-release versions of OS X that Apple took out for the release version and that they are now adding back in. I suspect it is just to give them something to add to make people pay for yet another minor feature update.

I worked for 16 years on the Mac. I worked doing advertising for Apple. I am a registered Apple developer. OS X and the new Apple really pisses me off in so many ways.
 
well i guess i'm mister moderation here, but i don't see much that both systems can't do. like it's not like there's a tremendous amount of stuff that pcs can do that macs can't, and vice versa. there might be some more software for PC, but that's about it, and you can counter that with the fact that pcs don't have grep or any of those other nice unix tools 🙂

Not much point in discussing Apples with people who equate cheapness with goodness.
Such people would rather choose Cuvee Napa 2001 than Dom Perignon 1990. What's more they wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

I really wouldn't bother if I were you, dude, Adul, etc...

 
um... we don't equate cheapness with goodness. We equate cheapness, faster performance, better compatibility, the ability to actually play all PC GAMES, better upgradability, and stability with goodness. Yet another pathetic response from a mac user.

I'm shocked at this Tech TV show! How can they be so biased???? After all, none of that biased crap ever happens on Anandtech! Nope, not all! That's right, no biased computer reviews whatsoever here on anadtech. You heard me correctly, there are 100% NO biased reviews in the forum known as anandtech off topic.

I know Apple isn't spouting lies. They back up everything they say. Whether or not you agree with it is your problem, not Apple's. That doesn't justify calling them lies. I think you're a bigger liar than Apple... but that's just my opinion 🙂

I doubt it. TechTV is owned by Vulcan Ventures which is owned by Paul Allen (MS).
The show in question was their twice yearly Mac World Fresh Gear. No reason to blow a freaking gasket.
I've never owned a Mac and the last Apple I saw run was a 2e.
With that said some of you wintel people need to take a valium and a nap.
Mac's have their place, graphic arts/home desktops, PC's have their place, business/home desktops and servers.
BTW, OS X.x is way better OS than anything MS has put out. If Steve Jobs would eat his ego and port the thing to x86 MS would have some serious competition.
