You just have to give it a chance. I myself hate the fact that the tech support has been outsourced but that's the American's own fault. The labor here has made itself so costly that companies find it a lot cheaper to move off shores to save money.
As for the "only $300/month" comment, that is quite a bit of money in India. For example, I took out 3 of my cousins to dinner to a really nice restaurant and we had a huge meal with food drinks etc. The total bill was 400Rs. (That's ~$8.72) For a meal in a very nice restaurant. I've taken 5 of my cousins out to a 5 star hotel for lunch another time and the total bill was ~1000Rs. ($21.80) for 6 people.
Now if you just grab food from a local place you'll pay a lot less than that even. That should help put things into perspective.

Damn dude.... that MUST have been some time ago! Nowadays, if you head for the Taj or something, be prepared to SPEND! I had a chicken sandwich @ a 5-star restaurant back home in India, and I was charged f**ing rs. 400!

Which brings me to the point I want to make. What this $300 a month salary is going to do is make more countires DEPENDANT on the US for their economy. So, I suppose stopping outsourcing IS a good thing... for the other countries.

What you people should realise is that most of these companies are multinationals... they have interests in a lot of markets (of which he american public is just a part). Getting into this market is what they are trying to do... People doing Dell tech. support in India is going to buy a DELL!

Just my thoughts :p

I know that jobs are migrating to India, but let me tell you why.
I am from India, and well, hate the Indian tech support myself, but thats another story.

But heres a small fact, do you know why Tech support is moving to India?

Around 300$ per month, for 8 hrs daily, 5 days a week. Thats why.

Thats how much an Indian gets paid to work in a call centre. Yes... thats it! And I am being very optimistic here!
No wonder its financially feasable for the companies to shift here.

And remember that son of a b$tch who calls you up at 10 in the morning to sell stuff over the phone? That moron is actually working in an office at 12 midnight, for 100 $ a month.
Work timings.... 10:30 PM to 6:00 AM

Your comments?

Have you bothered to read the other reads? I think most people have been able to figure out that they moved tech support to India not because of the superior service, but because it's cheaper.

Maybe Pakistan might let a bomb slip and take out some of the companys support centers. Just make sure the buildings are empty, I dont want to see anyone get hurt.

I was talking to a dell desk person the other day, had the thickest indian accent I had ever heard; long story short, I said I didnt want to try to talk to him anymore and that could I please speak w/ someone who spoke english. I then asked him what his name was, his answer: WAYNE!!!

wtf.

I bet they are given english names by their bosses so that people wont get too upset at Habib.

they call themselves wayne and mike, etc because mullet sporting redneck cracker trash like you and your friends (and especially your mom) feel uncomfortable with people who dont think/act/live like you.

Dude, Redneck Mullet Cracker Trash is an American Icon. Hell here in Boston even the Indian Immigrants sport Mullets!

Ha!

That is so true. Some of the ones running around the labs here have mullets that would make Motley Crue proud. <shudders>

On another note, 25 more people got the axe last weekend, 25 more jobs gone to India.

Try reading the threads again, the reason for the origination of this threads is that ppl although realize why the companies are giving jobs to india, they are just bashing indians for taking the jobs, not realising its the american companies increasing their profits.

Where did you go?? Gimme the city and address !! I lived in India all my life and never heard of such a thing!!
Either you got a HELL of a deal, or your memories slipping.

6 ppl in a five star is 2000+ ... (43.6$+) minimum. Actually MORE!!

Its a totally different thing that 44$ is NOTHING compared to american standards!

This is only the beginning. Companies like Dell will eventually shift all their operations overseas. It will reach a point that there will only be upper level management left in the US. Why pay an American worker $11 an hour to assemble a computer when you can pay 20 cents an hour in China for a worker to do the same? Why pay an American worker $18 an hour to repair a computer when you can pay a worker in India $2.50 an hour to do the same? Granted this takes away American jobs and hurts the economy, but no one in America cares.

The earliest I can remember my dad taking us to a 5-star hotel for lunch was when I was about 8 years old (that's 20 years back). The bill was something like Rs.800 - 1000 for the five of us. This was in Chennai which easily has a lower cost of living than Mumbai or Delhi. OTOH, I've also had hearty meals for Rs.6 (about 13 cents  )

HAH! thats nothing... I remember trying to get a GF2:GTS when it came out. Got a quote for Rs. 33,000!!! (thats $709).
This is the reason why companies like HP & Compaq struggle in the Indian market. Small scale operations doing CHEAP custom builds are the norm in India! At least, it WAS when I left in 2000.
