deskmod.com is gone and now i go to my backup site www.neowin.net and they are almost gone (will be back later)

damn, i was looking for the way to install xp without all the garbage that is on it and i had bookmarked a post on neowin, now to google it, but what do i google?

its hard to compete with sites like anandtech and toms that do very extensive research and have really detailed reviews. Unless its a full time job I think its hard for the smaller sites. Especially considering many of them only have one person doing reviewing/web design/maintenance.

Yeah, and many of those people don't have the time or money to continue it. It requires some money to be put down first once it starts getting attention, once I drove in over 10,000 unique people a day, my host wanted like $186 a month just for hosting... and that was when the economy was going down and all the advertisers were going out of business so I didn't make as much as I needed. But for those people who do run one, its good experience. I think those small sites will give more experience than anything.

just visited your site for the heck of it .... nice layout but you need to update the homepage.

I guess I can understand the cost of some of these sites, but why can't a bunch of people pool together from a variety of sites (they all try to compete with each other with free stuff) and open one mega site. That way they can afford it, and keep the community alive (isn't that what its all about?).
