Tech-report rips the GeforceFX apart

Well, doesn't nVidia admit to this (in the Beyond3D interview)?

Finally, what would you say that GeForce FX has that R300 doesn't?

Unbelievable levels of programmability that will enable the developers and artist to deliver stunning visual experiences in real time.

Leaves me saying...yeah, so?

Edit: But, to be fair, we should wait for benches...

LOL! Half of a page of ripping the card to shreds and then listen to the positive point!

Now, none of this is to say the GeForce FX doesn't have its appeal. For instance, the nymph chick in that NVIDIA demo is hot.

Of course, the GeForce FX may be pretty darned fast when it arrives. The benchmarks will tell that story. Also, of course, ATI may have a faster variant of the Radeon 9700 on store shelves before the GFFX arrives. But now that we've had a real whiff of the GeForce FX vapors, the reality is clear: this concoction isn't potent enough to freeze the market for four to six months. If you want a next-gen graphics card now, you might as well go pick up a Radeon 9500 or 9700 and start enjoying it right away.

Ouch!

😀

One thing I have come to notice is when any company states a percentage increase over the competition you can pretty much take half of that and consider it to be the truth....

Nvidia will be likely the fastest in a majority of the apps, but no more of a commanding lead as the 9700 has over the current 4600 level card now. Then they will spend the next months releasing driver set after driver set squeezing every bit of performance out of the chip. That is the nvidia way...

It is funny seeing them fight from the bottom though!!!

When until the r300 model arrives for ATI and what is this more advanced 9700 model??? Is it merely a core clock increase and some of the DDRII stuff onboard???

what makes this article so true is that the GeforceFX is hyped just because of the programmable shaders, a brilliant idea, which unfortunatly wont be used for 2 years or more. The question is, what does this card offer me now, from what I can "imageine" (Anand, gimme benches 😉) the GeforceFX will be very much alike the Radeon 9700 speedwise, and possibly even outbeat it when it comes to fsaa, that is if the new methood is realy that good.

And the end is so true, why wait?

Good read with some truth to it. No telling until benches arrive, though.

Besides, I was gonna buy a R9500PRO anyway...

Nvidia did the same thing with the Geforce. No games took advantage of the GPU when the original geforce came out. By the times good games came out that used it, they needed a geforce2 to play with a high level of FPS. All the features of the new chip won't be used for another year at least and by that time you wouldn't be able to play the games that well on it. You will need the next version Nvidia puts out. The only reason to buy the first generation card that has new features is just to say you have it. I played games with my TNT until I upgraded to a Geforce2 ultra. Now I will wait a while til directx 9 games come out and I will get a new video card.

Basically the point is, if you're planning on getting an nv30, don't. Just get a 9700 and wait for the nVidia chip after the FX.
