Ah yes -- one of my favorite childhood books coming to life as it SHOULD! Tim Burton + Danny Elfman + Rhoad Dahl = Pure, twisted fun!

The original Willy Wonka movie that was made about 30 years ago was, for me at least, a little lacking...

i didn't like the original even when I was a kid. Burton+Elfman is a damn good combination though. Burton is a good choice for the director though.

dude Gene Wilder was awesome wonka...

I dunno if its worth the gamble to remake this movie..
if he screws it up in the slightest hell get torn to pieces by the media..
very hard to remake a classic movie like this...

I cant see Depp as wonka.. and that poster makes him look like a Goth Wonka..
that suit looks like soemthing Marilyn manson would wear if it came in black =P

Ahh, but Depp is kooky enough to do it. I think he'll be fine.

The original was my favorite movie as a kid, and this i *hope* will be just as good if not better.

The one thing i am worried about is that they make it too spooky. Its supposed to be a bit weird, even bizarre, but not spooky or sacrry.
Johnny Depp is the ONLY person i could think out that would really bring this movie back. Youre right, he is kooky and weird like that and i think it will be great!

BTW, is there anything out there about who will be playing others, where it will be shot, etc?

If ANYONE today can pull off Wonka, it's Depp.

In fact, name someone else you think can do it.

At any rate, the first movie was pretty good, but slightly marred by the fact that it was made during the 60s freak-out era and the style takes over the movie in some parts.

Depp is too talented to mess this up. I just hope they dont twist the storyline too much that its unrecognizable.

Of course this is most likely aimed at the next generation. We have the original and they will have this one.

For weirdness, I would say Jim Carrey. I don't know if he would manage to let the story take center stage rather than taking it himself. Between him or Depp, I would choose Depp. I wonder if Gene Wilder could still pull off the Wonka part? Wonka was supposed to be fairly old, after all.

I always liked the book a lot better than the movie as a kid, so it will be interesting to see how this turns out.

No, Carrey is too whacky. Wonka is cool and smooth, but weird. Something Depp can easily do.

If this sucks as much as his remake of Planet of the Apes (I honestly don't think I've ever seen a worse movie than that), I will personally track Tim Burton down and kick him in the nuts.

Kick him for me if he goes and rapes one of my childhood memories like they have done with so many movies. :D

This is the first I've heard of a remake... if Depp is playing then it should be good.

Depp is awesome, I'm sure the movie will be a success between his and Burton's efforts

Awesome, can't wait for this to come out. I loved the first one but a remake is def in order.

According to this Link Steve Martin, Robin Williams, Christopher Walken, Nicolas Cage and Michael Keaton were all considered for the role of Willy Wonka.

I agree with most of the other posters that Depp is probably the best pick.

its funny how Depp is finally getting credit for being such a good actor. He has been awesome for years and years. Whats eating Gilbert Grape he was amazing in and that was years and years ago. One of my fav movies BTW. Another great actor even if you dont like him is his costar in that movie. Leonardo DiCaprio.

I LOVE Burton+Elfmann (Pee Wee's Big Adventure is my favorite movie ever), and I like Johnny Depp, so for that I will see this movie. But there was really no reason to remake this; it was an exceptional movie to begin with. It's like, some movies you just shouldn't remake. Should you remake the Wizard of Oz? Or how about Gone with the Wind?
