"Tearing" with Radeon 9700 pro

I just put together a new system: xp 2400+, fic radeon 9700 pro, 1gb kingston hyperX 3000.....

For reference, I get about 14,000 3dmarks with everything at stock and the image quality looks great. However, I'm a bit concerned with the fluidity of images. Sure, I'm getting insane fps, but it doesn't seem fluid. For the example below, i'm running BF1942 at 1024x768 with 6xFSAA and 8xAF, but it happens at all resolutions.

When i'm moving around fast, I see horizontal lines and "left overs" from polygons. By left overs, I mean that if I'm looking at a building and I rotate right, then I still see part of the building where it's not supposed to be. I don't really know of a better way to describe it.. the image isn't very fluid. I read that I should turn vsync on, and that seems to help with the horizontal lines, but it doesn't really help with the "left overs" problem I described (is there a better name for this?).

Is this just something I have to deal with? I may be being too picky, but I was hoping for a little bit better from this card (granted, it's a helluva step from my old geforce2!!!).

Edit: I thought I should mention that I notice a similar problem in 2D. For ex, if I'm scrolling through a web page with my mouse wheel, then I see text "left overs" 😀.

I'm running a sony trinitron 19" at 100Hz, btw.

do you have smartgart installed? if you do, disable fast-writes.

are your drivers installed correctly - heres a good thread on reinstalling your ati drivers w/out reinstalling your OS - go down to the post #6 ( How to Update your ATI Drivers ) ... just did it this morning and it fixed a bunch of issues...

are you OCing the card at all ( or your system )? sounds like it... if you are, your past your limit with the card OC. you could try uping your vcore a little... ( mines @ 1.65v and 150 fsb... see RIG for info... my card is @ 364/337 right now, it could go higher, but i get the same artifacts as you in doom3 alpha and the hard core scenes in 3dmark03, so i keep it backed down a bit. ) to see if that keeps things stable... if your not OCing your card, see the former 2 questions 😀

good luck

are you useing the cat3.2 drivers? also, did you force vsync in the driver control panel?

if so and the drivers are instaled correctly, you should not have any such troubles.
