Tearing around the countryside in an A4...

A buddy of mine recently bought an A4, and yesterday we went cruising around the backwood stateparck areas west of Milwaukee WI. Lots of curves and twisty roads.

My impressions of the car are not as good as one would think. It is the 4cyl 1.8T model, and not even German engineering can help a 4 cyl... It really felt like more power was needed.

There was enough body roll to make you notice that it could be less.

I have a 93' Maxima that when stock would have felt more secure on the road than the German car.

Why do these cars have such a reputation for being 'the car'????

Because even with the body roll they still handle great due to the Quattro system. It is easy to bump up the power in those cars to about 250 hp.

Yeah, what about the HP. I'm sorry, its a 4--cyl and it FEELS like it. If you want a luxury car, but something that can get out of its own way with out a turbo. (the car is terrible until about 40mph, then turbo...)

It's all about the way the body looks, no one really cares about the rest for the most part. And what the car does on WHITE PAPER, you know like the Pentium 4 should OWN on WHITE PAPER.

My uncle had a 1999 White Bentley Azure for a month or two.. (exotic car dealer).

That thing is so big and heavy, and it still pushes hard :) I was surprised.

Very luxurious but not very practical.. (aside from costing over $300k), I mean, the thing had a standard cd player!.

Comparing to a new S500 which he also had for awhile, I love the thing, it drives beautifully and it's luxurious all around.. easily worth the price.. which is hard to say for the Azure..

<< yes, bentleys are very heavy but very powerful and luxurious.. torque MONSTERS! >>

Ok listen Val, you CAN NOT diss the A4!!!! The A4 and the 328i/330i are the benchmarks in the sports sedan market. And it's a solid vehicle.

Ohh, did you see DMB on Leno?? :D

NSF4, I dislike the A4. I don't think it's "all that." If it is part of the benckmark for the sport sedan market, they need to find a new benchmark. There are other good cars...

Name me some other sports sedans in the 30,000 to 45,000 range that come close to the vehicle dynamics and performance of the A4 and the 3-Series (and their S4 and M3 counterparts). I can only think of the new C-Class and the Volvo S60 as being in the same puddle of water.

LOL Val. I feel that way about 95% of GM vehicles :)

The turbo 4 in the A4 is a torquey SOB :)
