can somebody lend me a clue? i have no idea what 33.61709 nodes means

it seems that the # of boxen is more advantageous than the speed of the cpu's ?

BTW winr, I thought I'd let you know this, last night the guy at the Internet Cafe told me to set up Chess brain on one of the computers and see how it worked. I installed Firedaemon and set chess brain to run as a service. When I rebooted, I got some kind of registry error, there was no way to boot Windows (XP), even in safe mode. He didn't seem mad, just said they'd do a reinstall. I dunno if the error came from Firedaemon or what, but I thought it'd be a good idea not to set it up on the another computers there :(

Hi OREOSpeedwagon.
Sorry to hear that.
I hope your Friend is not upset with you.
I use the GUI version on my win 98SE and XP PRO machines.
Kudos for trying!!

I've guessed, just by the little bit that I've been following chess brain that the following are true:

There is a computer somewhere that is playing chess on public internet chess servers
This computer takes the current position and breaks all the possible moves (there are millions or billions) among different computers that are currently running chess brain.
The client then receives these moves and analyzes them and sends them back to the server.
Crunching the moves doesn't take long (seems to average 10 seconds on my computer p3-700).
you get Nodes based on how many moves you actually analyzed (I don't know what the ratio is). Each set that the server sends out contains a different number of nodes that the server probably doesn't know before it hands out.

Since you have to wait for a move, that's why your processor sits idle for a while. Also, since the server has to keep track of the moves and such, it only hands one set out at a time. That's why if you have 10 computers, you should get 10 times the moves. As long as your computer is fast enough to cruch a set of moves before the server needs the response, then all your computers will get approximately the same number of nodes.

I'll be very interested to see how accurate these are.
