TeAm: Suggestion for our Distributed Computing Forum

Smoke

Unlike other DC Forums, we do not have the luxury of separate forums for each project. At times our DC Forum is a very confusing place. Maybe it is not so confusing for a lot of us REGULARS but imagine looking at our forum through the eyes of a new visitor. I have wondered how they perceive us.

I would like to make a suggestion. Let?s do what the ?For Sale/Trade Forum? has done to keep things a little more efficiently organized. They use abbreviations so readers can quickly determine the nature of the threads. For example: "FS" "FT" "FS/FT" "WTB"

Now this would be a strictly voluntary thing. 😉

Each project should use a short abbreviation so the forum can be quickly scanned for threads of interest. If the thread addresses the whole TeAm then we could use: "TeAm": . We might want to also use: "MISC" or "OT" for threads not project specific.

I?ve run through the front page of our DC Forum and have adjusted each thread to fit the construct of my suggestion:

What do you think? 🙂

This would indeed make the forum a bit more accessible. 😉

In some cases this is already done (think of the OT-topics).

Another idea (IMO the most desired option):
If we can make the Anandtech-techies to give us a seperate field, in which the sub-topic is mentioned, then we can sort the threads accordingly. 😛😛

Sounds like a great suggestion to be used as much as we can remember to. Awesome suggestion I'll try to do it in the future.

Or we could just use the Off-site Forum which is already segmented nicely. 🙂

Yes, our offsite forum(s) look very good and I wish we could have something here like that but as we discussed previously we need to support our AT DC Forum for it is our "Window to the World". 😉 🙂

Great Idea! It would certainly help the non regulars figure out what they are looing at, and the regulars could find what they are looking for a little easier.

🙂

I thought about this a little while ago but never mentioned it. In fact, sometimes I know I've posted a few times that way recently when starting a thread.

I think it's a great idea. It will help both veterans and new visitors. 😀

I'll be the black sheep here and say I personally think it's completely unnecessary since the vast majority of threads posted already indicate the project in some way.

I think we should do it. Not becuase others can't understand it to much, but becuase I don't like cahotic looking things. And if all the threads were "themed" then it would give it alot of organization.

Also, I don't like having a board for every project. 😛 Personally I like how this one is, it allows me to keep up with the other projects just by looking at the titles and such.

Great idea, Smokeball; count me in on this one. 🙂

FWIW, I'd like to see F@H used for Folding@Home threads, because it's shorter than FOLDING, and because there are also other types of "folding" projects - that might confuse newbies.

FWIW, I'd like to see F@H .....

I changed my example as you suggested, jliechty. 🙂

This idea and my examples are only suggestions. 😉 🙂

Good idea Smokeball 🙂 ,I partially do it already ,I guess I could extend it😉

As for the offsite forums ,I don't have much spare time ,so I'll stick with the original offsite forum www.deception.net 😛😉

good idea smoke 😛

muchos gracias assim 😛

the TA seti offsite forum has been rather dead as of late :frown:

I'll go along with you Remycanad, that's exactly what I think.
