I haven't been on IRC for quite a while. It seemed to have degenerated under the influence of a few potty-mouths and so I just quit going. I don't think they would have the self-discipline to self-moderate, and last I knew, there was no auto-kickban set up.

For the record, there ARE stats, including post counts, and despite my absence, I'm still 6th (just ahead of Wolfie, in fact): Link to IRC stats and amusing random quotes! :D

I whole heartedly agree, I quit chatting in #teamanandtech all together, I now chat in #thegamebox, but will leave if said individuals join that channel...from what I understand the individuals who I am refering to arn't even a part of this team anymore, so what that channel has become due to them is a real dissapointment.

I popped into the IRC channel last week...first time in months....and some smart@ss started out by wanting to molest my daughter. That was enough for me. I deleted the mirc to avoid saying something I couldn't take back. :|

hmm that's a bit of a worry.... :disgust:

Looks like most of the OT people have congregated to the channel, considering they all think mostly like that..

WTF???? Man people are realy tough when they are sitting safely behind a computer screen. If I walked into a room and some dude told me that I would have to bust his chops!

I do think you are talking about a certin noid that won't go away.

I lost control with that a while ago, if someone wants to start a new one, I don't think that it would be a big issue. I am sure people would be interested.

Yea, it's sad that the TAIRC #teamanandtech channel has degraded much. I still visit sometimes, but don't find it worth my while to stay there much. With all the potty-mouth little kids and people that have nothing better in life than to talk **** about me whether I'm there or not (especially a certain person who likes to insult me and pretends that he can't spell my name, though it's as easy as typing jl and pressing tab - automatic nick completion). Oh well, I keep coming back because I don't know of any other place to go; I've heard of this #neochat thing, but from what few quotes I've seen from there, it seems to just be full of more of the ATOT type. :(

RemyCanad, you've got a great idea, but unfortunately, IRC wouldn't easily allow such a thing to be done. And IRC is pretty much a standard chat protocol; I doubt that most people would want to go download some specialty application just to access a chat room. Even if that could be overcome (use a java applet in a web page? it might suck, but it could be done), you'd still have the problem of handling user registration. IRC has (and always has had) OPs, who have the authority to ban people (temporarily or permanently) from the network; however, (and unfortunately so) this feature hasn't been used enough (IMHO) on our #teamanandtech channel. :(

LOL, just thinking about it, we need to get ViRGE in there again...once a while back he threatened to ban me for quoting a line from Office Space (the one about what Lawrence would do if he had $1,000,000, which I probably shouldn't have quoted anyway, but...) He'd take care of the troublemakers in no time at all. ;)

They could make a channel that would require a login. Just make a private channel. But then again. That requires a certin someone and I haven't been able to contact him.

Wolfie

And if we do take care of the problem, can we get people to start coming back again? I will be contacting the select few that do have ops and we will take care of the problem...

If anyone is interested, a couple of friends and I have an IRC server up at irc.deception.net (thats what our ECCp mini-team TeAm_Irc.Deception.Net refers to) and it's also the companion server to our forum, http://www.deception.net/phpbb (which also happens to serve as the TA SETI offsite forum, but everyone and anyone is welcome on our forum and irc server)

We are pretty active on both the forum and the irc server, so any unwanted guests would be taken care of quickly :p

We usually talk in #chat but we can start any channel that is wanted :D

Hmm, you guys aren't very active right now on your IRC server. Maybe you aren't awake yet.

/me passes the coffee ;)

There is a way in which u can prevent people from turning a channel bad and having people ruin it for others by using a login scheme.

On some networks u have a bot or something of the like which u can login to on startup/connection to the network or whenever. All that would need to happen is the person hosting the bot is up nearly 24/7 and also that the channel is moderated, so once u auth with the bot u get voice/op status and are able to speak. This would make it easier to maintain control a channel.

Quakenet has a bot system in place to help prevent channel takeovers and the like, and are in the form of L or Q. Maybe we could have a similar system too?

I hope that sorta made sense and I wonder if we could get it into action.

/me summons ViRGE with Mental Rays... make it so! ;)

Spleenus, maybe edit the title of the thread to include "TeAm IRC" so ViRGE sees it and drops in here?

ViRGE is a step ahead of you, Mech.;)

After reading the complaints last night, stricter rules are in effect on #teamanandtech. Profanity - gone. Insulting people - mostly gone(I'm not going to completely say that you can't say something bad about someone, but the line is 10 steps before where Engineer was). Wolfie has OP in the channel, and since he has more time to be around than I do, he will probably be carrying out most of the enforcement. Remember, TA IRC is a privlige to participate in, not a right. We need to keep the channel clean and sensable so everyone has a change to participate.

PS If you do encounter any issues, please send a log(compressed please;)) to virge@teamanandtech.com, and I'll get back to you as soon as I can

Mech- keep that log to yourself. I know of the one you are talking about. :D

I will be in the channel when I can. Not to say I will take time away from the lime life, but when I am on there, and if something is going on, we do need to contact the ops. And when I am there, I will try to do my best to keep it clean.

Many of you have my Email address so if something is going down, write to me there. I check that before even heading to IRC.

that's the same person Engineer is referring to also, this guy's one reason it's gone downhill...

#teamanandtech is practically pointless, and half the people there (including myself) don't discuss anything to do with DC. I don't go to the TA irc network anymore, we (the group of people that actually talk there) go to a different server. Another guy and myself that I know have have just quit going there altogether.
