Thought this project was dead, but came across it on Vivendi's store that it is coming out 1/3/05

Is this legit? Back in '99 when I first heard about the game and was really anticipating it's summer '99 release, it seemed like a revolutionary game. Well 5 years later, with all the other games and mods it doesn't seem so revolutionary anymore. Still could be fun though.

Keep dreaming ;)

If there was more screenshots/media behind it, that actually shows its still being developed and worked on (and near completion), I would pay more attention to it.

Until then, its vaporware.

lol... suprise suprise. At this point, I'd cringe if it was still based off the HL1 engine.

I realize it's not TF2, but TF: Source should be out soon after (or at the same time as) the Half Life 2 release.

IIRC the most recent info on TF2 had it looking a lot like BF:1942, in that it appeared to be a WWII-oriented game with various player classes. The only difference of any consequence that I can recall is that they envisioned using simultaneous voice support to have one or more operational commanders telling units what to do. It sounded like an amazing idea three years ago, but now it seems all too familiar.

It has some of the original team overlooking developement.

Might I ask how they expect to make the game playable with a reasonable amount of people? Doom 3 is virtually unplayalbe with 4 people online, and I can't imagine how a team fortress type game would be.

I believe the actual link is www.planetdoom.com/d3f.

According to the team page only Gudlyf is part of the original team. Robin Walker and John Cook are also from the original team and they both work for Valve.

Thanks for fixing the link :). I typed it out of memory and for some reason... my mind wants to go back to quake *sniff*. At this point, I have more faith in the doom fortress team than the Valve TF team. Mainly because TF Classic was a BUTCHERING of the original and TF2 was a no-show.

As for how they will make d3f run with a large ammount of people. That remains to be seen. I am betting the number of surfaces visible will be greatly reduced
