TeAm DF needs YOU!!! - help needed to keep Sun back

Hi,

This is a call for help. The recent Seti need to keep BBR away has also had its affect on our project, as a few members have redirected their firepower to Seti to help out.

Before they left we had just started to be consistently in the top 10 (around 6th-8th place for a few days running). We then fell to 15th (!) and slid back to 17th. We've fought hard to get up to 12th, but we need some help.

Sun is only 4.5M folds back of us now, and outproducing us at a rate of 2.5M/day. Within two days they'll overtake us and knock us out of the top 20 (which we just acheived).

This is a project where really every computer can make a big difference. We don't need much. Probably 10 AXP 1600+ computers (or equivalent) would be enough to hold the threat off. Even older computers do quite well.

So please, lend a hand to your TeAmmates in need, by downloading the client from www.distributedfolding.org If you've got enough RAM (256M or more) you can use the "use more memory" option for twice the speed. Once you're set up, go to the DF site, click high-flyers, login, and set your team to Team Anandtech.

Thanks for your help!

Welcome back GhettoFob!
Too few computers, too many work units needing our cycles for too many projects!
I guess that's why this is fun.😉

Does this mean I shouldn't play the new UT I have been watching dl for the last hour?

Hi! Didn't have much luck drumming up a DF team at TNO, my home team, and so, as I promised to Crazee, here I am....just moved my account to the TeAm for this project. 🙂 I'll probably be joining your TSC team too 🙂

Trying to stop the Sun from rising, eh? 😛

Well, does the CLi version have dialup support? If so, I might give it a try.

There is a switch to disable automatic uploading if that is what you mean...
Just be sure to choose to enable large buffer size and disable net access during cli setup.

The Sun can rise, just not past TA!

also, there is a nice GUI tool for windows DF'ers

linky to dfGUI

The Distributed Folding GUI is a helper application for Windows that works with the Distributed Folding client available at: http://www.distributedfolding.org

It allows you to see your current progress, provides benchmarking information about your machine, gives time estimates for completion and allows you to start and stop the client with several parameters. It can even run the DF client hidden. dfGUI uses almost no CPU resources so it will not slow down your DF production (but you can close it and the DF client will continue to run).

If you run WindowsXP/NT/2000, it is especially convenient to install the client as a service (nicely explained in the readme1st.txt file included with the client) which autostarts it, takes care of it when you shutdown (buffers results and saves them until next time you run to prevent shutdown slowdowns) and doesn't have any output to your screen at all.

Anytime you do want to take a peek at the client as it runs, the dfGUI.exe can be started and shutdown without disturbing the client's operation at all. (Unless you want to tell the service to stop or force an upload of your results)
