I am forming an offsite discussion group with the purpose of promoting this SETI TeAm. It will be for Members Only where we can discuss recruitment strategy and other issues related to Team AnandTech - SETI.

It is not the purpose of this discussion group to detract from the AT DC FORUM or replace it, but to have a more private, secure method of discussing team business without exposing our plans to "non-team members".

The group will be limited to current active members and others will not be allowed to participate. You will have to register with me to join.

Send me a PM giving me the e-mail address you would like to use for this discussion group. An invitation to join will be sent to those people who respond. :)

Smoke,
I sent ya an email using the one in your profile, as I can't PM right now because my subscription lapsed and I have 400+ PMs with a 100 PM limit.
I should be re-subscribed sometime next week.

Not to be rude or anything, but is there any need for this? What "private" team business there is that can't be chatted publicly?

Have we gone this far from the happy hobby of DC where the goal was just to have fun with idle boxes for a good cause?

Well I would just add my opinion, if I may, regarding the need for this:

1) The need to talk about things that we do not want to reveal to other teams - our ranking within the top team listing is becoming more and more important to some members (and therefore, the need to increase our output vs. the other teams - hence keeping strategies secret)

2) With the private forum, we can have as many SETI threads as we wish, and we will not clutter up the DC forum any further - I think we are aware to what extent SETI seems to dominate. Perhaps this move will improve the situation for other teams :)

And one more thing I can think of that no one has mentioned yet, is that it will allow teammates to communicate with teammates, even if they get a ban or vacation here.

[edit]
And this is no great ground-breaking precendent. There were "private" forums, discussion groups, and newsletters way back in the old RC5 mini-team races, and even during racing with other teams, and continuing with the McOwen incident, and even during the SETI racing.

Think of it as "in addition to", not "to replace", as that won't happen, this still is the best distributed computing team and forum around! Nothing can replace that! :)

Exactly what he said :), sometimes things need to be said behind a closed door.

A cult, hahah, more of a community and extended family, sometimes you have to keep the neighbors kids out of the family discussions ;)

YGPM from me and for JW

I've tried PMing you back Reagan CRW three times without success. I even rebooted my computer but I still can't PM you back.

Then I noticed you don't seem to have PM "enabled" in your PROFILE. ;)

Give that a little attention and I can then PM you back. :)
