TeAm AnandTech is Recruiting!

Howdy. I've probably just got myself into trouble and broke a few rules, but I've been posting this in other subsections of the AnandTech Forums. If anybody shows up due to this, it will be a 'win' even if I get a 'vacation' from a moderator. :\

I trust you guys to help guide any newcomers with any and all questions they will no doubt have.

Let the growth spurt begin!

Please note that spamming a thread across multiple forums does indeed violate the rules and is an infractable offense. Permission should have been requested beforehand and an agreement could have been worked out.

Sorry if you thought this is some sort of official posting to be a journalist, moderator, etc. It's not.

TeAm AnandTech is the name of the distributed computing team. What's distributed computing? Seriously, you haven't heard? 🙂 Well, sit right back my friends and listen to my tale:

Distributed computing is in essence a very decentralized supercomputer made up of volunteer computers, when they aren't doing anything else. Why volunteer your spare CPU cycles to create a supercomputer? To cure cancer. To find new stars. To perform complex mathematics. To help the Large Hadron Collider discover new quantum physics particles. To search for Spock. The list is extensive. But let's not forget this one: Because you get POINTS and outscoring others is FUN. 🙂

You don't need a fast computer and many projects can even run on your phones and tablets once they are nearly charged!

You've probably heard of Folding at Home, SETI, BOINC, and other Distributed Computing projects. You've probably even used them in the past to test the stability of your overclocked new computer.

Well, we'd sure like to have you as an active member over in the Distributed Computing section, under SOFTWARE. We're a relatively small group, very friendly and helpful.

We're an international team, and we've joined with TeAm AnandTech to show our appreciation for the many years of advice, reviews, etc etc found on AnandTech.com. And we engage in friendly competition with other teams, and frankly we're losing. 🙁

I personally believe AnandTech reader's could easily overpower our 'enemies' and become a distributed computing powerhouse of a team!!

So come on over and pay us a visit, ask a newbie question or ten, and get started changing the world!

We have done recruiting before, though it's been awhile and it's usually just in Off Topic. (Where I don't think you posted?) You're supposed to get permission from the mods/admins before doing it, though.

In hindsight, might have just been better to talk to an Admin about putting up a sticky announcement at the top of the forum, than risk possible bannination.

Thanks for the effort, TennesseeTony 🙂

If I remember right Anandtech was bought by a company that also bought another tech site. Does that other tech site have a DC team? If they do maybe a race/competition with them could get some buzz/excitement going that would elicit others to join?

Ouch! I saw the locked threads in the other subforums. Great effort tony, but you probably should have PMed an admin, or even ryan smith about this recruiting effort. The admins have sanctioned threads in the past. IIRC we had one in cpus and VC&G.

If at first you dont succeed...

GLeeM,
The other site is Tom's Hardware and they have a folding team. In fact we are neck and neck active members and total points. They are slightly ahead of us but not by much. Our team number is 198, and their's is 40051, so we are the older team. Just saying, in case anyone wants to look them up. 😉
