hi all,

just wondering if it would be possible for one to teach themselves the ccna information without a router to mess with? and what about mcse? how much are the tests and how hard are they? thanks in advance for all input you may provide.

About the router question... there are programs out there that simulate a Cisco router setup... they are EXACT replicas of the actual programs... and yes, since the ccna is a completely written exam, all you have to do is study up a bit to pass it...

Go to costco...

they have an CCNA book along with the router sim... both by Sybex... for $80... the book is one of the best you can get and the router sim is pretty good.

We have Routersim at our cisco networking academy program. It is pretty neat, but it doesn't really compare to the actual 5 router lab we have set up. There were commands that didn't work like they should have in Routersim, but it gives you a good gist of how the routers function.

CCNA is a very specific area of networking exam. On the other hand, MCSE is also specific, but much more general in that htey teach you basic network fundamentals along with the microsoft software. CCNA in my opinion is a more advanced exam than say the Net ESs and TCP/IP.

That isnt a fair comparison since the MCSE is 6/7 classes and the CCNA is only 1, but its about right.
