Teaching myself guitar.... I need some easy songs!

Ok, here is the deal... since i am a poor college student... I borrowed a guitar and i am learning to play... I just want some easy tabs so i can sound good while i play.... Any kind of rock or metal will do.

I never played bass before some friends and I played at a quasi-talent show at my high school several years ago. We played Gn'R "November Rain." I remember the bass part being pretty easy (easy enough that I could pick it up and play it well in a short time) and I don't recall either guitar part being terribly difficult either, excluding Slash's solos, of course. Might want to check that out.

I am playing on a squier stratocaster standard series............

And i learned chop suey by system of a down in like 3 hours...
and some Scarborough by Simon and Garfunkle in a couple hours....

So i am open to anything.

I had a Squire Strat! I really didn't like it all that much but it was cheap and what I learned to play on. Good times....

Some easy songs you can go for...
Nirvana - anything
Black Sabbath - Iron Man
AC/DC - Back In Black -- the chorus is pretty simple
Black Sabbath - Paranoid
Eric Clatpon - Wonderful Tonight

Those are some basic fun ones. Have fun!

Most AC/DC songs are easy and will give you good practice with simple chords. Take your pick, really. Someone wisely mentioned Back in Black. I'd also add TNT, Dirty Deeds..., Shake A Leg and Livewire as particularly straightforward.

Old Scorpions songs are good power chord practice. Rock You Like A Hurricane and their cover of the Who song I Can't Explain fit the bill. Tease Me, Please Me doesn't rely on chords so much but the main line is very repetative and will give you some good practice fingering individual notes.

Other easy songs to get you started:

- Ozzy Osborne Crazy Train
- Georgia Satellites Keep Your Hands To Yourself...
- Alot of early Metallica rhythm guitar is excellent power chord practice...Four Horsemen and their cover of Am I Evil.

Screw the chords. The opening riff to Nothing Else Matters by Metallica is easier. That was my first full song... start it up and you will soon want to learn the whole thing. It gets quite complicated (by memory) but it'll sound good at the beginning.

Peace of Mind by Boston has a mildly challenging intro. The rest of the song is more difficult, and I haven't forced myself to learn all of it yet. Been sadly out of practice for a while.

Extreme more than words is pretty easy..

Most '50's style music.. Buddy Holly, etc.. 3 chords and you're gold.. Plus people still love that stuff!

Ohh.. and 3:14 from Van Halen (little acoustic ditty) is pretty easy and sounds kewel..

Yeah, I was going to recomend Enter Sandman....

Seek and Destroy is good also...
