Is this for real? Comparing her to the worst racists in history -- the Ku Klux Klan? Really? KKK with a Romey T shirt? I did not see anything offensive on her T shirt (from the pix of the story).

And the teacher claimed it was a joke. Riiiiiiiiiigggghtttt.

I wonder if that teacher would pull the same stunt if the student wore a BO shirt?

If it is true, the teacher needs to be fired pronto.

UPDATE: She was telling the truth. Teacher apologized = http://news.yahoo.com/teen-returns-school-romney-t-shirt-flap-132419966.html

The school's principal read students the letter of apology from geometry teacher Lynette Gaymon on Tuesday.
"I'm very sorry for all the chaos and negative attention that has surrounded the school in the past couple of weeks," she wrote. "What I meant as a light and humorous remark during class has developed into a huge conflict between students, faculty, parents and neighbors. My words were never meant to belittle Ms. Pawlucy, or cause any harm, and I truly regret that we have come to this point."

The teach is an unprofessional jackass. Plus it was a Geometry class not a history or Civics class where the subject of politics might come up.

Not to mention the fact that the teacher had no way of knowing if the student just wore the shirt to make her parents happy.

This teacher behaved like a moron.

Wow... shocking!

Teacher encouraged students to mock her? Tried to write on her shirt. The writing on shirt could have had dire consequences. Bet the school board promotes her or sticks her in a rubber room collecting 50k a year for reading magazines.

It's ok the kids not going to her class, that Lib pig would have failed her anyhow. For a t-shirt. Reminds me of the CFA drive thru guy! "I did something good today!"

Yeah, that was unprofessional on the teacher's part. You should never ridicule a student, especially when it comes to their beliefs/politics. On another note, why hasn't that school moved to uniforms?

That's way over the line ... if it's true. Based on a quick Google search, however, it appears we only have one side of the story. I didn't see any articles quoting the school or the teacher, beyond the school saying it's investigating. I suspect there's more to the story.

I find it curious, for example, that Samantha Pawlucy (the student) now says she's afraid to return to school because her friends and other students are angry with her for her "lies" about the teacher. That seems odd if Pawlucy is, in fact, telling the truth about what happened. I think it's also interesting that the Pawlucys seem to have met with every news source and blog within 100 miles of Philadelphia, at least based on the number of stories with unique pictures of Samantha and her shirt. That seems more like someone soliciting attention than someone embarrassed by it. That's idle speculation, however. I'd really like to hear the whole story.

Terrible if it played out as the girl stated. Would as usual reserve judgement until more is known. For instance if there are students who are not corroborating her account of the story.

If true the teacher should be fired, but we know that won't happen because more than likely most peers and administrators agree with the sentiment.

We haven't heard the full story, I'm sure there is another version, but with all the similar stories from around the country where over zealous teachers go overboard in promoting or defending their guy, I don't find it hard to believe at all.

Yup, we need the full story, including irrefutable evidence that the teacher is in fact a liberal, with that possible factor being the sole reason the teacher allegedly ostracised the student, as some fellow posters allude to in this thread.

Assuming this version of events is accurate, that teacher should be dealt with accordingly. She's probably union, so I'm not sure what they would have in mind.

I would like to hear the teacher's version of events though.
