A 58-year-old teacher of 10-year-old children in Austria suffered a heart attack and collapsed next to the blackboard. Her class, thinking it was a joke started laughing.

A colleague, who came to see what all the noise was about, saw the teacher on the floor and called for an ambulance, he then started resuscitation efforts. The teacher was however said to be dead when paramedics arrived.

The young students are said to be traumatised and will be given counseling.

Honestly 10 year olds do not fully understand death.. At that age and even up to much older kids do not expect to see a person Die.

In other news, Grasshopper27 was found dead today in his home. Police found his body slumped over his computer desk amid 872 empty Mountain Dew soda cans and 13 empty pizza boxes. Friends say he stopped coming out to play over 3 weeks ago, and his family claims they had not heard any noises coming from his room since yesterday. Perhaps the most telling sign was the website his computer was logged into, www.anandtech.com, where fellow users posted threads asking where Grasshopper27 had disappered to since his numerous OT posts had all of a sudden disappeared without explanation.

That's true but you still could expect them to think that something was wrong. Hell, I would have at least seen what was up. Unless this was the kind of teacher who liked to play games that centered on her spontaneously falling down, this SHOULD have signaled some flags as being out of the ordinary.

I seriously doubt it was more than a few seconds after she collapsed that the passing colleague came in. I get the impression you think these kids were cracking up for a long time.

If they were they must have been really stupid. Even at 10 you know when something is wrong like that.

Even though I'm only 18, and only attended/worked in two high schools, I can think of at least three examples when teachers have collapsed from different health problems. The most recent case was a teacher collapsing and then having a seizure. Thankfully, the class was a group of seniors, and they were with it enough to press the office panic button and to call for help. The teacher was OK, but was on sick leave for over a week.
