Drive: Teac DW-28e
Errors in Event Viewer:
The device, \Device\CdRom0, has a bad block.
Errors in My computer:
if Cd recording is enabled: it doesn't read the drive. When you click on the cddrive icon it shows nothing in the folder.
If cd recording is disabled it says:
In the title of the message: Disk is not formatted
Body of the message: Windows cannot read from this disk. The disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is not compatible with Windows
I need serious help with this problem. this has been going for 5-12 months now. Periodicly and rarely, the drive reads the disks and then it just stops reading them.
Help Please!:(

Russ,

Is the drive running in PIO or UDMA mode?
If it's in UDMA, try backing it to PIO mode and see if it helps.

Have you tried another IDE cable?
If yes, then,

1. Restart your computer.

2. Press F8 when the computer finishes Self-Test and begins to load the
operating system.

3. Select Safe Mode and press enter when the boot menu appears.

4. Right click My Computer on the desktop, and click Properties.

5. Click the "Hardware" tab and then click the "Device Manager" button.

6. Expand the "DVD/CD-ROM drives" item.

7. Right click your CD-ROM device and choose Uninstall.

8. Click OK to proceed.

9. Restart your computer. The computer will automatically detect the
device and install the driver.

THEN

. Click the Start button, click Run. Type Regedit in the Open box and
then click OK.

2. Browse to the following key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11C
E-BFC1-08002BE10318}

NOTE: This is the CD-ROM/DVD global class key.

3. Delete the upperfilter and lowerfilter entries if these strings are
present.

4. Restart your computer and check if the problem disappears.

If same problem, probably a hw problem.
