teac cd-w516eb cd writer problems

just bought a teac 16x10x40 cd writer w/ burnproof that came in a cendyne box. installed nero and i keep getting a communication error message while trying to burn. it even happens when i have burnproof checked. i'm wondering if it has any incompatability issues with the kt133 chipset or via drivers. anyone have any ideas? thanx.
