Teac CD-540e problem!

I have a problem with my Teac CD-540E.

I keep getting read errors when I try to copy and paste or do a cd-copy from it.

I updated the firmware, and lowered the speed, but no improvement.
(Actually, lowering the speed makes it read longer before before it craps out, but it always craps out anyway.)

This is really annoying, as this makes the drive almost useless!

The cd's read fine in my Memorex crw-1622 and in other people's cd drives. And these disks are not cd-r's or rw's. (They are factory pressed)

Is this a defective drive? Or a software problem? Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Hate to see someone hanging like this...

Something is definitely not right, as the 540E is one of the best IDE readers available. Mine goes through CD-R's and CD-RW's as though they were pressed CD's. No issues with the updated firmware that I am aware of, nothing but a remarkable improvement in DAE.

My best advice is to double check the connections and cabling, assuming you haven't already done so. Try a different IDE cable if you have one around, and possibly swap IDE channels to isolate the problem.

Also, I recommend grabbing a copy of CDSpeed by Erik Deppe...not so much for its benchmarking abilities, but for testing how the drive handles different types of media. And since it reads the entire disc in one motion from the inner track to the outer track, it may help identify specifics of where the drive is having problems.
