Any recommendations on good on-line places to get loose tea, cheap?

Preferably different varieties, and mostly black/green/white/red teas (i.e. not herbal).

Someone posted something before, but I can't find it, which leads to a side note - how to search for JUST "tea" on here? Using tea gets you teacher and tease and steak, etc.

I don't know about online, but I buy assorted Republic of Tea varieties (mainly green) at my local Whole Foods and think they're all fantastic. Some are sold loose, others are sold in tins of 36-50 bags.

Stash is great tea, but it's rather expensive.
I have my suspicion that their "herbal teas" are just potpurri crumbs. AWFUL!

But their Earl Grey is the best I've ever had.

I'll check out Adagio. Looks pretty good!

Republic is good, too. How much are they at Whole Foods? They are usually around $8-$10 for a 3/3.5 oz. tin, which is still somewhat pricey. We drink a LOT of tea here, and we're trying to figure out if we can get good tea cheaper in bulk.

That does sound good. We've had some bad experiences with herbal teas, but that one could be a winner.

That's about the price there, although once they had a sale where most of their non-white teas were a mere $6-7 (not RossMAN inspiring, I know).

Depending on where you are, you can probably get cheap tea at a local Asian grocery, but I couldn't really speak to brands or quality. Otherwise, I'd just dump "bulk tea" into Froogle and see what it comes up with.

I get a lot of my tea from the chinese/indian grocery stores around here. Much cheaper than the grocery store and of course, much better.

Around 10 years ago, a local Drug Emporium started selling the "limited edition" Republic Teas for half price. I bought many tins, and I STILL have some. That Mate Latte is freakin awesome.

Well Jzero....I don't know how much help I could be to you but.....I get my tea from overseas...I only drink Oolong grown in the mountains of Taiwan and China......

It really depends on how you take your tea. Azn style or white man style (with cream and sugar). If it is the latter then it really doesn't matter where you buy it because the flavor of the tea is masked by the cream and sugar IMO.

But if it is oolong tea you could try

Tea Station
158 West Valley Blvd.
San Gabriel, CA 91776

(626) 288-3785

They have a boba section and a section for more serious older tea drinkers. See if they ship.

Haha! Thanks for your input.
I think we're looking for a middle ground in terms of price and quality.

I guess we drink it "Azn style." Black. Occaisionally we'll throw some honey in it. Asian style confuses me because I work with a lot of Indian people and they seem to make tea with mostly milk and little water.

I will check into Tea Station. I love oolong.

By Asian, he means Chinese/Japanese/Korean etc... the Oriental types.

Yuppers thx for the correction I did mean Oriental teas. Milk in tea = English influence I think...

I'm not going to point any fingers, but I would bet that your historic affiliation with a certain upscale cafe chain has something to do with that.

I still have a couple pounds of beans that I got when I dated a barista a few years ago haha!

Well I've been ordering from Adagio for the past couple months and they are pretty good.
Their flavored black teas are awesome and their Keemun is very good, too. We are not impressed with their earl grey which is unfortunate because we drink a lot of the earl.

Possibly the best part is that adagio is in NJ and we work outside Philly so ground shipping still comes overnight.
