TDR Test issue on a switch

Hi Team ,

The interface is frequently going down and comming up. I have done the TDR test and the result is as below.

TDR test last run on: April 15 02:11:57

Interface Speed Local pair Pair length Remote pair Pair status
--------- ----- ---------- ------------------ ----------- --------------------
Fa0/27 100M Pair A 0 +/- 2 meters Pair A Short
Pair B 0 +/- 2 meters Pair A Short
Pair C N/A Pair A N/A
Pair D N/A Pair A N/A

I know the SHORT status means the cable got short circuited. so which means is it a faulty cable and need to change the cable?

Also can you please let me know what does this N/A status means?

Thanks for your explanation in advance.

Regards,
Vidiya.

Looks like there's a partial cut somewhere in the cable down the line. Reterminate it. If that doesn't fix it, replace it.

Thanks a lot drebo. I will try this and let you know the outcome.

Do you aware of the status N/A? what does it mean?

So far i came across the test results which show all four cables but here the test results are visible only for two cables.

Vidiya

That looks like that is the status of each twisted pair within a cable. I am assuming that its a Cat 5 cable with only two twisted pair instead of a cat5e/6/6a cable with four twisted pair in it.

If so, that is why the other two pairs are listed as N/A. They don't exist.

Or if it is a 5e/6/6a, that probably means that all of the wires are broken/incorrectly terminated and the default diagnosic return assumes that if it can't find 2 or more of the twisted pair, that its only a double pair cable instead of a quad pair cable so it lists the other two pairs as N/A.
