I was wondering how it is possible for Intel to decreased the TDP for the 3.4GHz Prescott/90nm cored LGA775 P4 from 115W to 84W in the latest (E0) stepping?
I understand that a stepping involves a revision of the wafer mask and that this can solve any electrical issues etc. but that's a 25%+ drop in TDP.
I note the core voltage has dropped from 1.4V to 1.287-1.4V.
Is this is real drop or is it just Intel marketing?
Can anyone enlighten me?
