TDK VeloCD only burning at 1x, help...

I just installed my veloCD 12/10/32 on a computer that's running Windows XP. Nero 5.0 and 5.5 would only burn at 1x. When I run the speed test with Nero to determine the maximum speed my CDR/RW is capable of, sometime it will say maximum speed is 36x, sometime 394x, sometime 303x, but it will only burn at 1x. I try to install it on a Windows 2000 machine and the same thing happen.

The burner is on Secondary Slave (another CD-Rom is on secondary master).
My system is a Intel Pentium III 933mhz, 384mb SDRam, SCSI maxtor 9.1gb harddrive.

is dma set on or off....

also try chaning it to the master drive and make the cdrom the slave..or if you can place the cdrom and cdrw on separate ide channels so that each are master

DMA is on and I switch the burner to a different IDE channel. Still won't solve the problem.

I use CD Maker to burn my CD and it burns at 12x. The problem this time is that the burner will not work after each time I burn a CD. The Burner won't even show up under My Computer or Device Manager. Is this a WinXP thing ?

I have the same burner, mine dissapered when I installed the software for my sound card. Creative labs soundblaster x-gamer. Audio HQ I think it was. Anyways I went into my bios and manually reasigned drive letters to the drives and it fixed it. What was the last thing you did before they dissapered? Undo it. As far as only burning at 1x, I have no idea. Is that software your using a trial version or the full thing, and why do you have 5.0 and 5.5. Only use one. Good Luck

I'm only using Nero 5.5 but I tested it with Nero 5 too and the same problem occur. :-(
I have Phillips Acoustic Edge so it's not the problem with the sound card. The last thing I did was install WinXP
