Wow, I bought my Plextor 16/10/40a in early spring of this year and now the write speeds have doubled in less than a year.

Geez, i've been used, and my money was their bitch. :frown:

Notice how CDRW speed is still 10X though.

Sorry.. I don't mean to threadcrap. Anyways, I don't think it is available just yet, should be soon though.

Also, lemme ask you this, Demonicon, how many CDs have you burned with your Plextor? Do you think it would've been worth it to wait, and wait, and wait for a burner that will only improve your burning time by about 1 minute, and nothing else? You paid good money for a damn good CD burner, so don't feel bad. It's the nature of technology to drop in price & new stuff come out all the time. Mean while, enjoy your burner, and wait for when the DVD burners drop in price and improve

I've burned tons of cd's on my Plextor and I love it, in no way am I unsatisfied with it's performance.

I just like to complain. ;) And trying to illustrate the double in speed in less than a year in a humorous way(well to me anyway).

2 Things.

1. it's a Yahoo store, be CAREFUL. I don't trust those stores, always check Reseller Ratings before ordering from a store.

2. It's a pre-order, the 32x has only recently been announced. They're not out yet.

Yea. I saw that LG had a 32X10X40 also. But who needs a CD in 2 or 3 minutes. I'd rather wait 10 minutes on my 10X :p

Don't feel bad. Plextor 16x is an excellent writer and it actually does TRUE 16x writing(16x from inside to outside) My definition of final speed is the rated time of disc divided by time it took to burn in Disc At Once mode with Nero 5.5

Plextor 16x gives avg of 14.5x, its less than 16, because it takes about a minute for lead in and out.

Anything above 16x isn't true speed. It starts off at 16x, then slowly increase its speed and the instantaneous speed near the end is the rated speed. The TDK 24x starts at 16x, switch to 20x, switch to 24x and gives final average speed of 19x.

I've seen Fuji 24X disks in the stores. Real question is do the new 32x burners require special new media to burn at 32x, or will the stuff that's out there now work. If you have to buy special 32x CD's, and they charge a premium for these disks, probably wouldn't be worth it (IMHO), not unleast until they've been around a while and the price has come down.

Notice how read speeds haven't increased on cdroms. I guess if they go any faster they will melt the cd :p

So what do you think final average on the 32x would be?

I'm still using a TDK 12x10x32A, best burner I've had (not a single coaster). when I burn something, I'm usually not in a hurry so anything above 16x is pretty much
unnecessary for me.

Good point. I've read that the Fuji 24X CDRs are actually identical to the Fuji (Taiyo Yuden) 16X CDRs, and that they're just rated higher because they can take it with ease. It's quite possible these Fuji 24X CDRs will be able to burn at 32X, mainly because the entire CD is not burned at 32X. I'm guessing that it will start at around 16X, then 24X, and finally 32X. This will decrease chances of errors because the first two zones are within spec, and 32X isn't entirely groundbreaking from 24X, so it looks to be fairly reliable.
