Hope somebody who's either done this before or has the same drive I do can point me in the right direction as I can't find any info with google and the TDK website is USELESS. I should say I'm a DVD newb. First time with a DVD burner so I may be missing something obvious.
Bought a TDK IndiDVD 420N (DVD+R/RW) this weekend. Installed it without a problem. Last night, I tried backing up a DVD that I had just to see how long it would take and mostly out of the cool factor of being able to burn a DVD.
I ripped "A Mighty Wind" using DVDecrypter, wrote it to my HDD.
Used DVD Fab to burn only the main movie with all language tracks/subtitles, it's exactly 4.3GB so it'll fit on one disc. However, when I try to burn, it gave me an error about not being able to write/create the proper directories on the disc. I should say that I'm using the TDK DVD+R disc that came with my burner, not some generic or 3rd party DVD+R disc.
Doing some more investigation, when I pop the blank DVD+R disc into my DVD burner, in My Computer it changes from DVD/CD+RW Drive to CD or CD+RW drive (can't remember exactly, but the point is that the DVD part drops off when I put the blank DVD+R disc in). When I click on the drive from My Computer it gives me something like "Drive Not Ready" or whatever, whereas usually when I put in a blank CD-R into a CD burner, I can click the drive and at least get into it and see that the disc doesn't have anything on it.
When I use Nero DiscInfo (or whatever it's called) it does show it as a DVD+R and it shows it as blank. However, when I try to burn data on to the drive with Nero, it seems like it sees it as a CD-R. I selected a directory with about 1.5GB of data on it. Added it to Nero to burn. Nero though, shows my capacity as only 700MB, at least according to the capacity bar that Nero has towards the bottom of the screen. I didn't start the burn however so I can't 100% verify that.
Also, I tried buring a CD-R last night on the DVD burner, no problem. I've also put in movie DVD's without a problem (that's how I ripped the DVD).
All I can think of is maybe I got a bad DVD+R blank disc, even though it's a TDK OEM disc. However, I thought I'd throw this out there and see if anybody had any suggestions.
