Anyone know if the faceplate on a TDK burner is the same as say a lite-on or whatever? I bought an Antec Sonata case, it's black, and my burner faceplate is white. I don't really mind since the Sonata has a door over the 5.25 bays, but I'd like to put a black one on anyways.

Thanks! :D

i dunno if the faceplates are the same, but if not i remember seeing a thread about dyeing faceplates instead of painting it. maybe you can do that if all else fails. dyeing is supposed to have better results than just painting it.

that's what I'm starting to think about, it's like dye for PVC or vinyl, I think I can get a replacement face from TDK and try that.

Actually, CompUSA has aluminum coverings for CD writers. The price is about $5.99. You might consider picking one of these up, painting it and then adhering it to your current writer with the provided adhesive backing.

I tried some Rit dye, found in the detergent isle of a department store most likely. Not a whole lot of color selection, but if you need black, it should do fine. I tried to find some of this stuff but couldn't find any - I tried Walmart, Bell Hardware, and NAPA auto parts - none of them had anything like vinyl dye anywhere. Sounds like it's good stuff though; just seems a bit tough to find here.
