I'm trying to help a person with XP. They can dial up and connect but can't go anywhere. To fix this in WIN 95/98/ME all I did was reinstall TCP/IP in Network but there's no way to do it in XP. Any suggestions?
Actually there is a way to do this, in Network Connections go to properties on the dial up connection your friends uses and make sure TCP/IP is selected. If all else fails I'd contact the ISP as this sounds more like a DNS issue than TCP/IP...
I actually have seen this problem too. doesnt matter if its dial-up or direct connect like dsl or cable. You can connect to the service provider fine but cant get anywhere. Whats worse is it can ping something but cant browse anywhere.
I have even tried the MS KB article # Q299357 and still nothing. About the only solution ive found so far is a complete re-install.
That is a pain in tha butt to do so id like to know if anyone else has heard or found a solution yet as well. Been looking on and off since xp came out.
