i got a k7s5a with a tbird 1.4 266fsb, recently i got a stick of ram, 256mb 266fsb DDR elixor brand, and replaced my hynix one which is 256mb 266fsb as well, dont ask why.

the new ram has been working well for a week or so but now i just get random crashes, i cant set the fsb to 133/133, only 100/100, even a 100/100 it stil crashes. and no heat is not a problem, case temp is around 26 celcius, northbridge is around about 29 degrees, and tbird which is currently at 1050MHZ is 38 degrees and i have good cooling with two case fans.

and now my tbird gets 1.85 volts instead of 1.75 volts, i checked the chip it self, the L7 arent lined, used to be but it was running at 1.75 just before the ram went crap, could it be the ram?

and i have an ECS K7S5A board which doesnt allow ooverclocking or voltage adjustment?

what caused the tbird to run at 1.85 volts? even at 100/100 it still shows as 1.86 volts in the bios!!!! it came factory unlocked.

OH i pulled some pc-133 out of my dads machine and put it in my, it worked like a dream, 133fsb, no crashes, didnt check the voltage though as i only found it out after i did the ram swap, but now it just runs at 100/100 with random crashes in windows games, even at the log on screen in winxp.

TBird CPU is very sensitive with RAM  You should use good/high quality memory for it.

My 1.2GHz 266FSB PC was randomly locked up when I installed an el-cheapo 512 MB PC133 stick.
The problem was gone after I replace them (it and another 256MB el-cheapo PC133) with 3 generic Micron ICs 256MB sticks.

My other 950 Duron gave my blank screen when I installed crappy PC100/133 sticks, even with 2 Samsung PC133 Registered DIMMs.

I also observed the unstable voltage when I plugged an 8cm fan for the Alpha heatsink AND an 8cm case fan to 3-pin ON-BOARD header. The problem was gone after I used 4-pin Molex fan header to connect them directly to the power supply
