Tbird thermal pads???

You leave the pads on. They are there to help prevent you from breaking the chip while putting the HSF on. you should still be careful though. The clip for the Alpha PAL6035 is pretty tight.
 
might want to work the spring a little to make sure its not *TOO* tight...tight is good, but not ceramic-crushing-tight...
