T'bird powersupply

I got a 230 watt power supply. AMD reccomends AT LEAST a 250. The rest of the specs are below except for the drives. I'm running a 20 gig 7200 RPM Seagate and a no name 48x cdrom. All this is on a Asus A7. Will it do anything bad running with 20 watts less than it reccomends? It may be time to trade in the 230 but i'd like to just leave it.

Well it sounds like it is running OK now, so if it ain't broke ....

OTOH, "poor" power supplies are thought to be the source of a lot of problems in AMD-based systems. See this.

I agree "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" but if you're haveing any troubles (lock-ups, etc) I know what I'd suspect first off!

I had a 300w die on me, so you never know what to expect. It all depends on quality. I'd grab a Sparkle 300w if you start having any problems, if no its not hurting anything to have a 230.

the thing is, i'm building it, it's almost done, just got to flip the switch. I'm just worried that it will damage the parts. this is a p 200 P.O.S. and i spent all my cash on the rest of the components for my new machine, lol, i'm broke and can't afford even a new powersupply.

You certinly shouldn't damage with an underated power supply, I think that if everything works OK, LEAVE IT, otherwise, a 300W would be a good idea
