TBird or Duron help for OCing

I'm going to buy a Tbird or possibly a Duron within the next few days, Tbird between 800 and 950 or Duron between 700 and 800, 'cause I want to hit 1G (going to use either the new ABIT kt7a or EPOX with the kt133a chipset). I've been leaning toward a retail boxed cpu for the 3 yr warranty. Does anyone know if AMD would detect OCing in the possible instance that I'd need to send it in and thus void my warranty... in other words am I wasting my $ buying boxed? (I do plan on buying a good fan/sink, probably Taisol, so the boxed fan/sink will collect dust).

Also, does anyone have any suggestions as to which chip and speed, and which board, for best OCing results?

That is good news. Do you know if they ship with the new Taisol, the one which was reviewed by anandtech along with the other top air-coolers?

If you're going to O/C, why worry about the 3yr warranty? If it's going to go out, it's more likely to in the first 30 days or so. Thompson's Computer Warehouse has a better reseller rating and great prices. I personally purchased a Duron 700 and have it at 1007. Many things to consider when overclocking, like getting some excellent RAM. I have a 256MB CAS2 stick from Crucial and I can probably get my Mhz to go higher - just need to play with it a bit more....hope that helps.

Good point on the warranty... I guess a shorter one will do just fine, and I won't be paying for a fan that I won't use. Thanks for the shop addresses as well. I have a 256 mb 133 cas2 chip, so I should be ok (fingers crossed).

Anyone have info on whether there's a 'better' Tbird for OCing? As far as I've read they all OC about 200mhz. The price/performance of the Duron keep nagging me though...
