I just got an epox 8tk3 motherboard, but I can't get the tbird to do 133(266) bus. I have unlocked the processor but it won't boot. I have lowered the multiplier to 5.5 and still nothing. Anyone have any ideas. The processor boots at 1000 when I change the multiplier to 10, but its at 100 bus.

Thanks,
Alf

But I can run the memory at 133 and cas2. Is running the bus at 133 any different? I tried running at cas 3 but it was a no go.

Unless you know you specifically baught a 133MHz Tbird you most likely have one of the 'b' chips. Only the new 'c' chips are rated for 133MHz DDR FSB. If you don't know and don't mind getting your hands 'dirty' you can find out by looking on the back of the die on the chip. If it has a string of numbers followed by a 'b' on one line its only rated at 100 MHz and well the 'c' designation is already explained. Hope that helps you some. -Rob

I read this on some other site, and this is probably your problem.

According to the site, when your computer boots up it first attempts to boot at the FSB (133 MHz in this case) with the default multiplier (8x), and then if this works fine for a millisec or so, it'll then switch to whatever multiplier you specified (5.5x). However, if your processor won't run for a millisec at 133x8, then it'll never get to 133x5.5.

I'm not 100% sure on that, but I think it's true. :(

I have read somewhere (AnandTech, maybe) that the Abit KT7A won't allow a multiplier less than 7.5 with 133 FSB, as AMD never intends to make a CPU < 1GHz. It may be a limitation of the chipset, and not just the BIOS of a particular board.
