Tbird 750 and KT7A, a couple questions

I just got a Tbird 750 and KT7A-RAID. First question is how accurate is the temperature probe behind the socket? It's telling me 65C running Prime95. I have an Alpha PAL6035 with arctic silver and the case temp isn't even 1 degree over ambient with my fans. Now wouldn't the air being pulled out of the case by the processor be pretty warm if it was running that hot? It barely feels any warmer than room temp. So far I'm also perfectly stable. This is an OEM chip though, and I don't want this thing to bake on me as soon as my warranty runs out. It runs about 40C idle, so I'd say a 25C jump between idle and full load is pretty extreme.

Next question is how do I get MBM5 to show the RPMs of all my fans? I have fans plugged into headers 1,3 and 4. It's only showing #1, and #3 and #4 are at 0RPM. #1 is a 60mm Sunon fan and 3 and 4 are 80mm Sunon fans.

Once I can get a bit more software loaded and am sure everything is running smoothly I'm going to throw on the 133MHz bus and try to take her to 1GHz, any advice? Also throw in any info you have on the voltage settings, I'm still a bit confused.

Thanks

Oh yeah, my USB intellieye mouse is acting weird now. I installed the updated USB filter, but it's still a bit jumpy at times. any way to fix that?

Only fans #1 and 2 can be monitored.....#3 and 4 (AGP and case) are just there to supply power but dont provide monitoring.

65c is way off, the heatsink is pretty good, and you shouldn't be topping 45c under load in that setup.

It's actually dropped to 60-61C now, still running Prime95. Could this have something to do with the CPU only being a few hours old?

I have a mid-tower case with a 120mm blowhole cut in the bottom (yes, it has clearance to get airflow and it's not on carpet) and a 120mm low noise Sunon fan (69CFM) plus a 80mm Sunon in the front, and an 80mm Sunon in the back exhausting with a duct coming from over the CPU with the heatsink fan blowing the air into the duct. It seems to work well, 71F case temp.

Oh yeah, anyone that has said PAL6035s are easy to mount has never tried it with a KT7A with the powersupply less than an inch away from the top of the board. That's probably the most cussing I've ever done in a 20 minute period.

I'll probably order a CompuNurse tonight. They work well, right?

zision. My alpha pal6036 Was easy to mount on my kt7a-raid & the power supply is about 1/2 inch from the MB. I just unscrewed my MB tray & slid the whole damn thing out the back. ;)

I've never smoked enough hard stuff to even THINK about installing a socket A heatsink with the mobo INSIDE The case.
It's too risky, plus with the kt7* series of mobo's, it really tough to get to.
I love my slide out mobo tray :D
But anyhow, your sensor is definitly off, you should be around the 45c mark, especially with that good ventilation you have going.

mine unfortunately doesn't slide out :( but other than that I love the case, it's a Fong Kai somethinorother.

Ok, help a newbie out here. I've tried setting it at 7.5X133. Won't even POST. What are your suggestions for voltage and IO voltage? Also, if I can't get it to POST, is there a way I can get into the BIOS without draining CMOS each time?

I'm thinking I may have to invest in a conductive pen, I don't think 7.5X133 is going to work. No matter what I try, not even a POST.

I just tried penciling the L1 bridges, and aparently I didn't pencil them enough, as my multiplier is still locked. between the fine results I'm getting and the hell of a time I have getting this damn heatsink on, I'm thinking about just giving up.

look at your bridges with a microscope to make sure there are no gaps

see if that helps you.

Hah, I fired up Quake3 for the first time. I hit 88C. Yet I'm perfectly stable. Is this proof enough that the testing methods of some websites is complete bs?

I'm going to try to find a conductive pen tomorrow and try it again. I did successfully boot 758MHz :)
