I just ordered a new system and all of the parts arrived except the monitor, so I've set it up and I've run into a few issues.

System major parts are as follows:

Tornado 1000 300 Watt Case
Plextor Plexwriter 32x/8x/4x CD RW Drive
Panasonic 115 16x DVD Drive
Maxtor DiamondMax 40 GB ATA/66 7200 RPM HDD
Asus A7V Motherboard
Athlon 1Ghz CPU
2x128 MB PC133 CAS-2 DIMM
SB Live Platinum
Intel Pro 100 NIC
Winfast Geforce 2 GTS 32 MB DDR
OS Win98 OEM

I installed all the parts and booted the system fine. The first time I tried to install Win98 it got to the point where it checks for and adds your devices, at which point it bluescreened and required reboots about 4 times to get through it. It eventually finished and then promptly bluescreened again while asking me for the time/date.

Once that was over with, the system seemed to be okay, but I was having trouble getting my NIC card installed. I installed the proper driver off the floppy, but it was showing a conflict (IRQ). Along with that, the following system devices were conflicting as well:

PCI Input Controller
PCI Mass Storage Controller
PCI Multimedia Audio Device

I attempted to install some other devices properly, such as the SB Live, and managed to get it installed. Then I was showing a conflict with my SB 16 Emulation in the system devices display. I attempted to remove some 'PCI placeholders' from the IRQ device list, but when I rebooted, the system would come up and instantly reboot itself when trying to load Win98 (endless reboot loop). I was able to enter safe mode, but was unable to resolve the problem, even after removing all the conflicting devices.

I started over with a fresh install, this time using fdisk to create two partitions (8 gb and 32 gb) instead of using one large one.

The second time, windows installed flawlessly, no blue screens at all. When the system came up for the first time, I checked the system devices list again and I had the same problem. I see

PCI Ethernet Controller
PCI Input Controller
PCI Mass Storage Controller
PCI Multimedia Audio Device

are all conflicting (no irq resources available for them).

I am unsure how to proceed, I think everything hardwarewise is fine, but there must be some setting or driver I need to get things to work properly. Does anyone have a clue what I'm talking about?

install windows with nothing unecessary (only vid, hdd, cdrom, ram, floppy) and see how it likes that. Also check your bios version on the a7v, and update to 1003 or 1004 if necessary. Also check your cpu temp and make sure your cooler can handle that 1ghz t-bird. They put off a lot of heat. Other than that, i dono....

Well I went home for lunch and was able to get the Geforce 2 GTS working, and the ethernet card working. I think the rest should all work as well, I just ran out of time. I think there was some issue with the first OS install that was causing problems and the reboot loop.

Thanks for your help.
