hey i am about to replace my Tbird 1.2ghz chip and i was wondering if i should wait for the newer 266 fsb speed ones come out in a couple weeks or should i get the 200 mhz fsb ones? will it matter what one i have for overclocking? thx

It is more than likely than TBirds 200 and 266 are exactly the same stuff with just difference of multiplier, like the P III 100 and 133. Then, since it's possible to link the L1 bridges and to choose the appropriated multiplier, I see no difference except availability and price... The TBird 200 seems then to be The choice.

running my 200Mhz T-Bird at 9x133Mhz no problem :) Might try to overclock it later.

I'd say get the 200MHz FSB. This is due to the known fact that most (if not all) 1.2GHz 200FSB TBirds come with the bridges closed so they can be easily changed to their 266MHz counterparts by simple BIOS setting manipulation. We as of yet do not know if the 266MHz FSB variants will come with the bridges also closed. This will be a critical factor in overclocking without voiding one's warranty.

Also, there appears to be a price premium on the 266 parts, that is not justified since 200 parts can be VERY easily changed to 266 parts through the BIOS. This price premium will probably be around for more than a few weeks.

thats what i was thinking, thx for the added reassurance and info. ill go with the 200 mhz fsb version then. do you guys know anything about the different cors? ie aluminum or copper? is it true that both are used to manufacture 1.2 ghz tbirds? if so i think i would want to go for the copper since it is a better overclocker, or am i wrong on this? anyone have any info on how to make sure i get a copper one *if* there a re 2 different versions? thx for the help

As far as I know, all 1.1 and 1.2GHz TBirds are made using copper interconnects. The die colour is not really an issue anymore as it is merely whatever pigment the fabs have available at a certain time to polish the chip cores.

It has to do with your board dude. Don't worry too much about the chip. They came out with the 266 b/c the multiplier stops at 12.5. To go higher they need to increase the FSB. So a is the magic letter for your board.
