TB950 @ 75C

My TB950 NOT overclocked runs regularly at 75C. Even at Standby (when Windows ME shuts down nearly everything) it is about 54C. My ambient temperature is 20C.

What temperatures are other TB950 users running?

I'm not quite up to speed on AMD yet but that sounds about 20C too high from what I've seen on other posts. What are you using for cooling?

It is what we called "Pine Apple Ice" in the shops. If you are not living in Hong Kong, probably you haven't heard about it. It is a round cylinder in shape and is generally agreed that it is better than the rectangular blocks shipped with Thunderbird.

You using thermal paste or pad?
Heatsink flush with core?

Geez, that is pretty high. Sounds like your heatsink maxes its thermal capacity.

There must be something wrong, but I don't know what. I applied a white paste (much thicker than toothpaste) on top the CPU. The paste came with the cooler.

I have removed the cooler more than once. I noticed that the paste under it is smashed all over, so the contact must be not bad.

If it is running that hot, I would get rid of that HSF if I were you. I have an external probe attached with the tip of the probe touching the core of my T-Bird, and never get past 40 Cel. under full load with the Alpha/Delta fan that I use. Right now, my internal case temp is showing 21 Cel. The external temp probe on the T-Bird is showing 35.1 Cel. That is at 982MHz 1.85V.

While from what I understand there is no way to really get an 100% accurate temp reading, the external probes that I use for the T-Bird and in the case are as close to accurate as one could get. In any case, the temps that you are reporting are too hot. I know nothing about the HSF that you are using, but perhaps there is a problem with the clip tension, or it will just not take the heat generated from your T-Bird.

The heatsink is not mounted properly! Do it again. It is important that you get good flat contact with good compound. If the compound is gritty, get different compound! One grain of grit or dust or fingerprints or whatever on these new cores will raise your temp.

what is HSF? 21C??? What is the room temperature? My MB is some 30C even with P2-350!

HSF is Heat Sink and Fan. How much paste did you apply ?? Too much can cause problems.

I have heard of the Pine Apple Ice before, and although I am not certain since I have never actually seen one, I have been told that what you really have is one of the 'fake' Golden Orbs. Considering the fact that the Golden Orb is definitely NOT one of the best coolers available, having an imitation is going to be even worse... Try putting the stock heat sink back on (with a T-Bird 950, you should have the Taisol HSF) and see what your temperatures are then...I'd be very surprised if you find that they are even over 40 degrees Celsius!

I have very good case intake/exhaust with 120mm fans, and others, so my case stays pretty much at room temperature. I do not have the heat on in my office, and it has been cool here in Virginia, especially in the mornings. That is the reason my internal case temps are so cool.

Touch the heatsink.
If you can't touch it for more than a second, it's over roughly 55c.
My tnt-2 pro runs @ ~70c when gaming....VERY HOT indeed

How does a Golden Orb looks like? and how can I tell a Golden Orb from a Pineapple Ice?

I dare not touch the HS when the computer is powered. My fingers can stay on the cylindrical fins, so ths HS is probably not too hot. Worries me even more.
